But I don't think the current FA rule is that bad. Actively involved does get a broad application.

Well now... THIS could be interesting:

http://soccernet.espn.go.com/headli...=337345&cc=5901

quote:
MADRID, July 21 (Reuters) - Real Madrid have reached a €24 million ($29.15 million) deal to sign striker Robinho from Brazilian club Santos, Spanish state radio said on Thursday.

The radio quoted 'reliable Real Madrid sources' as saying that Robinho was now a Real Madrid player.

But a Real Madrid spokesman could not immediately be reached for comment and Robinho's agent Wagner Ribeiro denied the report.

He said no deal had been done yet but told Reuters he was prepared to take the matter to FIFA if no agreement was reached.

I can imagine Michael Owen isn't too pleased about this. He played well enough to earn a starting position, but he likely won't be passing Ronaldo on the depth chart. I can see the English clubs pressing now to get Owen from Real.

Or Liverpool again. Newcastle had been asking before hand.

Chelsea may indeed want him, but they have to get rid of some of their other strikers. Now they got Crespo, Gudjohnson, and Drogba in the striker role. Though I guess Gudjohnson could play in the Wing Forward role.

Chelsea need to decide whether they want a five man midfield or two strikers.

The former means your striker (Drogba) will score less goals, the latter means your midfield needs to play well.

One for at home and one for away games maybe..

I joined last year and was too lazy to make a single transfer!

Can't we have a seperate slackers league?

I'm going to join, but I'm not in work until Monday night (and picking a Fantasy Football team is a work time job in my book).

Does anyone fancy a flutter on it? It needn't be everyone, just who finishes higher of the the ones in the bet?

To reply to Maq... yes, Gudjohnson makes sure he's in the right position and puts it away. Last season, Drogba missed a ton of goals when he was the in the right position and the ball was sent to him.

And with Crespo coming back in... well, Drogba will have fewer chances.

I can afford to take a tenner from you, or anyone else.

Look at that header Drogba scored in the CL semi against Bayern, no way Gudjohnson scores that, in fact Drogbas whole performance against Bayern in both legs, he played lone striker better than Gudjohnson ever has.

Like i said we havent seen his best yet.

Crespo is better than both, but i still expect to see Drogba more than Gudjohnson this season.

I think Gudjohnson's main benefit is that he knows where to be so that he's "in the right place at the right time". He has superb anticipation.

Perhaps we haven't seen the best from Drogba yet. but I think you underestimate Gudjohnson.

Though I think this is best answered by MikeH, who's probably seen more Chelsea football last season than both of us combined.

I doubt it, he just watches them on Sky Sports like eveyone else.

Drogba had a bit of a thankless task last year, he was up their on his own a lot of the time and the reason the midfield scored so many was partially down to the second ball from a Drogba knock downs.

But yeah, he does miss too many sitters.

It's quite a problem. I remember one match toward the later quarter of the season where he missed like 3 easy goals. It was embarrassing to watch!

And while it is good and well that he knocks down the ball for chances, you expect more from a 25m+ pound transfer.

Well "more of a chance" isnt a great leap forward from last season, plus they got along fine without Crespo. I dont think itll be a simple leap back into a regular first team spot for Crespo, even though he is technically the best striker there.

Crespo and Drogba are not interchangeable. You cant play Crespo alone up front and have a five man midfield.

What do y'all make of FIFA rankings? Are they useful at all at gauging the relative strength of national teams?
