Assuming those numbers are right, even better.

If the U.S. starts a trade boycott, China dumps its U.S. cash holdings, the U.S. dollar crashes. With less exposure in U.S. securities the cost to China is less so less damage to China's economy. China repegs the Yuan to the euro or maybe a basket with the euro and the yen, causing even more of a run on the US dollar.

Meanwhile, Japan will also want to cut it's U.S. holdings because it will be losing money on its US securities.

End result still the same for the US: it's screwed.

George W. and the Republicans have been China's best friend. Thanks to them, the US has a gun pointed at its head in terms of a trade war with China.

No, China can;t threaten the US startegically. It can threaten tactically, and beswdies, that is irrelevant to actually winning. The NOrth Vietnamese won vs the US when they did not have even 100th of the cards the Chinese have to deal.

I wonder if GePap would react calmly to that.

No, I would be laughing at the General who said that, given that its highly unrealistic the US would make such a nuclear guarantee, specially when we accept in theory that Taiwan is Chinese territory.

The US might make such a guarantee for Japan or Germany, but Taiwan? She ain;t worth it.

Very, very wrong...America has a very stable economy...while it is one of the most free markets in the world, the American government has learned much from the Great Depression and so forth...

The regulations put on buying stock and the governments ability to semi-control interest rates prevents the American economy from going drastically up, and then drastically down...I'm afraid I can't say this for China...

Millions of people who already control a great amount of stock, private property, and a good percentage of American homebased industry would have to deliberately and forcefully try to bring down the American economy...basically, you would be asking people to buy stock with all their money and assets, then burn the money, and claim bankruptcy...and we are talking millions here...

Even if you destroyed the entire DOW Jones and caused all 30 companies to go bankrupt, the American economy, while deeply damaged, could still easily recover within a few years...unlike China and the rest of the world, corporations would gleefully wish to fill the gap, and small store owners would soon expand simply to provide jobs...more than likely the United States government would be able to drop many of its programs and give away small amounts to small business owners to incline and encourage them to expand...

Gepap, what caused Vietnam to win was the American press...Vietnam was killed, crushed, but the American people didn't care, and the country could not maintain war...

However, this scenario is much different...in Vietnam, the US was the aggressor, and no doubt was foolish to attack Vietnam...on the other hand, in this thread, we are assuming China has threatened the United States first, in which case the scenario is much, much, oh so very much different...

Americans don't like war, but they will not put up with anyone threatening them or telling them what to do...

You can argue whether America is the best and most powerful country, but whether it is or not is irrelevant...a good number of Americans think it is, and the people of America are not easily intimidated...if you don't believe me, look what happened to Iraq...

Now given, few still actually support the war, but before the "Iraqi Freedom" was dragged out too long, many were in favor of attacking "teh evil mid-east"...many regret it now, but all the same, the same could happen to China...

While the U.S. dollar may decrease in value, it wouldn't crash...

A decrease in the value of the dollar is not necessarily a bad thing, as work becomes cheaper in the United States, as well as living expenses and so forth...on the other hand, Europe's living expenses, in comparison to the US, increase (or rather, get higher than those in the US)...

Even if the U.S. dollar did crash, so then the U.S. is just like every other economy in the third and second world, expanding and growing rapidly...only difference with the U.S. is that it is not overpopulated, and the U.S., unlike other democratic countries, can control its population very easily...Immigration laws...stricter laws, less immigrants, population decrease, looser laws, more immigrants...

The US. per capita is currently $40,000, higher than any country in the world except Luxembourg, which is estimated to be the same, source www.cia.gov...

Although I don't dispute the accuracy of this statistic, I find it strange. I'll bet most Americans don't even make $40,000/year. This just shows the extreme skewing of the economy in favor of the already ultrarich.

This has got to be the most inane and ignorant post in the history of Apolyton.

Sorry, Kuci, but Zkrib is right. Hawaii and the UK had a history of friendship and cooperation before the US came and annexed HI.

You know, there would probably be a lot of native people here that would consider that as a compliment?

Hmmm, a sexual attack. I'd go into how this is the first falter in your argument, but you obviously don't have one other than calling people retards and insinuating homosexual jokes.
