Oh - PIKEMEN!!

I think we should build or upgrade some pikemen.

I think we should switch to making horsies instead of immortals, so that we might be able to take a Euphorican city instead of them burning it when our stack borders their cities..

I am also aware that the Euphorican survivors will have healed and be back in their land by now, they had 3 swords and 2 horse if I recall. that's a reasonable starting point for them to use..

Is anyone concerned that we are going to be putting our stack in harm's way next turn (between U2 and Nirvana) while yet again the Horde seems to have managed to keep their main stack one step behind their allies in the field?

I discussed Horde battle plans with Paddy today and he sent me this screenshot today.

They will move their stack towards 1 of U2 and strike the following turn.

That's the plan, but it's likely they will disband it before we can attack

They disbanded a town last turn when the Horde were poised within striking distance.

dont think so. We might try and do a land deal with the horde, there are better sites to be settled before Euphorican lands.. like lands bordering the Lost Boys.

Perhaps paddy can be made to see this.

I was thinking more along fort lines than anything more permanent, but you're right. If we can get a pre-arranged land division with the Horde (that they'll honor), we'll be a lot better off in the long run.

Euphorica has attacked our stack, killing one Elite Immortal and injuring another.

Perhaps we should ask Paddy to enter Euphorican territory with his main stack before we do, to draw fire away from us? I am sure he would object to this.

Any other ideas?

Indeed it is - and it shows how large both BOH and AM have become. BOH have 11 towns by my count, AM 10. We will soon have 9, but clearly need more.

Just chatted to Paddy. He suggests we fortify for a turn while they upgrade Swords to MI, then we both move into Euphorican territory the turn after. we move 8, they move to a position 4 of U2. Then we both attack - if euphorica don't disband the towns that is.

Meanwhile we take more casualities. I don't think that's a good idea. If we move in and we take the city, great. If we move in and they disband their city, then we don't take more casualities.

That is true - their Swords can reach our stack in its current position. Moving forward will expose us to the brunt of their force if they so choose, without Horde support to divert them.

Moving backwards will delay us too much.

Me too

We should move 6 to the Forest, so that we get the 25% defensive bonus. This will mean we have 2.5 defence Immortals supported by Cats, against possibly a number of Swords.

At least now our spears should defend first against the sword attacks, if they come. If memory serves, their stack heading back toward Nirvana consisted of two horses and three swords. I'm not sure how much else they can bring to bear on the stack now that they've apparently abandoned U2 (or did I read Rubychaser's post wrong? The northern rubble pile was there in 1175, but I may have my turn order screwed up), but even if all three swords were victorious (as I doubt they'd attack with either horse, or that they'd meet with any success if they did), that would leave us 8 immortals and the cats, which should be able to handle the wiping out of the stack. Aqua, did you happen to move Simon onto the mountain 8 of where he began 1175 in order to get a look at their stack?

Another take on the upcoming stack move, based on three swords and two horses that we know retreated from Mt. Massacre (check 1275 BC): I'm also going out on a limb regarding the defenses of Nirvana in two ways here. First, I don't think they had any units there as recently as last turn we played, because before they saw our stack they had no reason to believe it was in immediate danger (and it wasn't, for that matter). Second, the way they're abandoning towns, I'd expect them to move the U2 garrison toward AbbA, rather than make a stand at Nirvana. They've reached our stack and attacked in 5 turns. In 1275, their swords were all at 2 hp, and if they never paused to heal, they would have been able to attack in 4 turns, so we can safely assume their swords to be 3 hp each going into the last turn they played. We know the horses attacked, which would most likely leave them 9 of our stack after the attack, with 1/3 movement point left, except Tina, which retreated (presumably into Nirvana, somebody correct me if this is wrong). With Tina out of movement in Nirvana and Gwen with 1/3 left 9 of our stack, what did they do? It looks from the screenshot as if you did incorporate James Cobrun into the stack, so with 1 or 2 units in Nirvana, we could reach and take it with a horseman sacrifice (which I'm not necessarily advocating, btw). With that in mind, the bards face a small dilemma: move the swords and Gwen into Nirvana to guard against that long enough for it to be abandoned or move Gwen 69 of our stack, let the swords heal, and hope that we won't sacrifice James and Yul.

If they did the latter, we may want to look at that sacrifice. We'd eliminate 1 vet and 1 elite horse of theirs, and have 1 vet and 1 elite horse of ours exposed, with a chance of retreating. At worst we break even, which is good for us, since our capacity to replace the units is greater than theirs. To top that off, we take Nirvana. With the swords still 33 of Nirvana and U2 destroyed, and with both their local horsemen out of the fray, we could actually get our spears and immortals there to hold it. More than the material gain, though, think of the PR boost in the main forum of actually being able to take and hold a city before they burned it.

Of course, this is all highly speculative depending on their movements, which we won't see until the save comes around. Do try to hold off a couple hours on this one before playing, please, Aqua. Hopefully, I'll be able to take a look at it and give some input.

Edit: Personally, in their position, I'd have moved everything into Nirvana, either to move out and abandon next turn or heal under cover of significant reinforcements from U2, so this may all come to naught, but if they decided to cut bait, we could reap a decent coup.

As I suspected, all for naught, since U2 wasn't the destroyed city and at least one vet spearman is holding Nirvana, plus the three swords and, presumably, elite horse. Scratch everything I brought up and head for the forest.

1150BC

I accepted the peace deal offered by Babylon despite the possibility of losing the WW and rioting, because ET in his eagerness offered everything twice. So instead of 75g we ended up with 150g

We also got Monarchy (oh-oh, now Moonbars has a case!)

Sweet Desolation went into rioting as expected, but I stopped nay other cities from doing likewise.

Not much else to say. Founded a new town - haven't named it anything special yet. Got a couple of Granaries being built for want of anything more useful. Another Settler on the way, and we are now the 4th largest nation. Seems Babylon are being slaughtered by AM, as their blue colour has all but disappeared from our minimap.

Stack moved to the Forest outside Nirvana, and I tried to contact McMeadows on MSN without success to suggest they give us Nirvana and Beach Boys as suggested by Moonbars.

Engineering in 13 at deficit pace.

By the time we get the turn back I fully expect Nirvana to be in ruins, courtesy of the Euphoricans themselves.

I chatted to McMeadows last night who said they would much rather raze their own cities than give them to us, even if it meant they could concentrate their forces on the Horde.

Oh well, they'll be out of the game soon and we can then move south to attack Lost Boys.

Oh, I agree that Nirvana will be razed. I was just curious as to what kind of force they had shifted there in the interim.
