They look scary.

I think the talent gap at WR is significant in Detroit's favor. When you have talent like that at WR you have the potential to seriously kick some ass that year.

As far as the defense for Minny goes you never really know about a defense until they start playing. I wouldn't hold out much hope for them this year, maybe next.

Well there is not much going on Eagles camp except for a minor disgreement between one of the WRs and Coach Reid. And McNabb. And the offensive coordinator. And the front office.

Why? Rogers is NEVER healthy and Mike Williams has been holding out and who knows how prepared he'll be once the season starts. Roy Williams is the only one of the big three who you can count on right now.

In contrast, Burleson, Robinson and Taylor are all in camp and playing.

You can look at the talent and reasonably know how they'll work out. Minny has done a phenomenal job of bringing in defensive talent.

If they don't win the division, it'll be a massive upset.

Rogers is only 24, and it's only his third year; he probably wasn't fully prepared for the intensity and rigors of the pro game, but IF he does stay healthy, the sky's the limit.

I'm praying for Garcia to step in...

Not that I disagree with your overall point, but Mike Williams has been in camp for over a week now.

And Garcia? Come on. The guy is 35 years old, and his stats last year were, at best, merely comparable with Joey's. The guy is a capable back-up, nothing more. If the Lions rely on him to steer the ship, they are ****ed.

He's been to the Pro Bowl and the playoffs, While's his numbers dropped a bit last year, he's always had a decent rating and a favorable TD/INT ratio. To be honest, I can't think of anyone better to lead the team. He's said he's there to start, and I believe him.

His arm is too weak.

The best thing the Lions can do for the offense is to stretch the defense as much as possible with deep routes; the size and skill of the receivers will give them big advantages on deep balls, plus it will open up all sorts of running room for Jones.

And, as a side note, is there a bigger asshat in professional sports than Terrell Owens?

No, I don't consider the mentally ill (Artest) or inveterate cheaters (Bonds) to be asshats, necessarily.

When I think of an asshat, I think of a guy who is just a plain old jerk.

There is one problem with the prior statement... Bonds ain't a cheater, since baseball never banned such a substance when he was supposed to be on it.

And Artest is a jerk. I'd much rather use mentally ill claim on T.O.

If it ain't against the rules, he didn't cheat. Case Closed. Ethics and morals have no role in deciding cheating. Furthermore, baseball has even sent players to the Hall of Fame who were obviously cheaters (Gaylord Perry who used a spitball for years, even though it was banned before he was born).

Oh, and in further news, the Bears are SCREWED!

Well Lions lost last night, but its preseason, so whatever. Joey went 9 for 9 with 100 yards and no interceptions.

That being said, looks like the team was in the Red Zone 3 times in the game, and only had 3 points to show for it....

Do you mean 2004? That's the first time baseball banned steroids, IIRC.

There is nothing saying he was, IIRC. The 2004 sytem was anonymous, but I'm sure if he was guilty it would have come out (Hell, Palmeiro's steroid was leaked when it was supposed to be private info).

I believe they were banned in 2002 under the collective bargaining agreement, but the enforcement was weak. something about if some % tested pos, then something else would happen.

tough to find links to pre-2004 articles due to the recent deluge, but here is a recent fay vincent column citing it.

Steven Jackson got 47 yards on 7 carries Friday night against the Bears, and the Rams defense looked really tough, although that was against the Bears.

Hmm... well I'm not sure Bonds have ever been in the MLB treatment program (which was the first step in that collective bargaining agreement), so in all likelihood he never failed a test.

It's amazing how all the media and many fans are saying how the Bears are dead before the season even starts. In fact, nobody really knows if Grossman could do the job or not... considering he had a whole 6 regular season games under his belt. Hell, Hutch might even be a better QB

I'll wait until the entire preseason is over, and seeing how the other QB's do before kissing off the Bears season... It's not like Grossman was a guaranteed Hall of Famer

Not really... It's just that for the last few years, it's been Grossman this and Grossman that... and frankly, we haven't even seen what he can do yet. The Bears defense looks good so far... all we really need is an average QB to avoid making the big mistakes, and score a "few" points. Nobody thought that Grossman was the next Payton Manning. Grossman could be awful for all we know... Hell, the season could have been over if Grossman stayed healthy

So again, I will reserve judgement through at least the end of the preseason.
