There may have been a thread about this before, and most know that I am to lazy to search for it so I am gonna ask this.
Just this Past week my two Boys just started football parctice. One In hi school and the other pop warner. Well I have been to both practices, and the parents at the younger kids practice shocked the hell out of me. These crazy ladies were jumping up and yelling at these kids like the were possesed. Some of these kids were like 4 and 5 years old playing flag football. I thought to myself good lord what the hell is wrong with these folks? This instance was just the first two days of practice. Ok now to the reason for this thread. I think my ex might be one of these lunatics. My oldest agreed to play but after 2 weeks of practice he doesnt really like it. My ex has stomped his feet in the ground and said that he is going to play. I calmly told my ex if he didnt want to play why force him then he accused me of babying the kid. So in my state of WTF i told him fine handle it dont ask me for advice on the issue.
Anyone with stories relating to this please offer advice you dont have to have the kids, but may have been one or know someone like this. |
High school football in Texas is unfortunately above the law and answerable only to God, leading to a skewed, warped reality as far as allocation of funding goes, as well as a generally poor academic experience for high school students.
Some parents are obsessive about their child making straight A's; others want their child to perform at Carnegie Hall before 12, and others still want their child to play football, no matter what. Your ex has no right to push your son into doing an extracurricular activity like football if he doesn't want to: furthermore, if your son IS forced onto the team, he could face even more problems from the team and coach if he isn't motivated to go through their bullshit traditions and practices. No need to force your son to face the ire of redneck jocks. Let him focus on the talents he has, that he likes, which will in the end be far more productive, and useful.
And one final rant against HS football: coaches don't give a **** about the health or well-being of their players. Studies have shown that the heavy lifting and exercise that teenage football players are forced to do have a negative impact on their body, as the muscles, tendons, etc are still developing.

I've heard it's that bad. I would say in AR it's huge but somehow sports aren't above the law here.My state senator suggested eliminating PE to open up more time for all the other subjects, and he will definitely get reelected (dunno if his suggestion ever became law or not, though.) A couple years ago we passed a property tax increase for the school district, and the first revenue went into building a new stadium (capacity 4-5,000 I think?), "multi purpose building" (an indoors astroturf field), a new field house, new baseball fields, etc. but also a lot of the money went to real education and now that all that's been paid a lot more of the revenue is going to education, probably no new facilities for athletics for a very very long time...
