There are a lot of people like that. The Classic OS gave you a bit more freedom and was less computer-like. One other reason I don't use windows is that the support for multiple languages is pathetic.

I still haven't seen anything from Asher that isn't a blatant appeal to authority.

Ming's ibook must have been broken or had something done to it. My wife can't screw up an ibook, which is the hardest test for a computer imaginable.

Got spare money?

Windows is better because more people use it than OSX.

I'm not talking about popularity.

The reason this is so important, is because the 100s of thousands of programmers/artists who use Windows are constantly complaining/suggesting how to make Windows better.

Microsoft does listen. It takes a long time to release a new OS. Microsoft will make the best OS with each release (I'm talking about major releases, 95, 98, XP) simply because it recieves the most constructive critism.

OSX interface has a nice look, it fails me to understand why Microsoft can't employ artists to beef up Window's interface appearence. Windows Vista is an improvement, but its still a bit clumsy looking, and I don't like the black Start Menu. Black is not a good colour.

Bollocks. Just the regular "blame the victim" excuse.

MS advertises Windows as something you don't need experience and skill to use - not "use at your own risk because we don't give a rat's arse about viruses and spyware."

Your argument doesn't support your premise.

UI design has nothing to do with the ability to program under a particular OS.

The only reason that doesn't affect you on a Mac is because the Mac marketshare is so pathetic there are no programs offered in popups for you to install. If everyone used a Mac it'd be bloated down similarly by stupid users.

That's called circular logic . . . . . . . .

And considering that it is UNIX/Linux servers that are used in a large number of mission-critical services , why doesn't anybody target them ? Taking down a large number of services critical to the internet is going to get you many more "leet points" that if you target individual windows users - yet there are practically no viruses for Linux/UNIX . Why is that ?

Just a question - why is it that I can have a put a linux box on the internet and wait for it to patch itself ( using one little command ) , without worrying about whether or not it will get infected in about 12.5 minutes ( after a fresh install ) ( 12.5 minutes is the mean time to infection of an unpatched Windows box . As downloading the updates takes more time than that , Windows boxes usually get infected just by trying to update a fresh install . ) ?

I really don't want to get in this argument. Because Mac people always say they can use a console for games (which I find to be an invalid arguement since civ3 isn't on consoles).

but out of curiousity, what is the cheapest mac you can get?

Or maybe because Apple Hardware is too much buck for the bang and Linux isn't as comfortable as Windows is out of the box.

Spyware and viruses are no problem for me and Windows is anything but a poorly designed UI. Take a look at Gnome to see a poorly designed UI and the graphics are okay in windows. In fact I find Mac OS X's "Design everywhere" much uglier and especially the brushed metal look which is absolutely disgusting. I am using the classic windows theme and I am fine with it. An OS doesn't need to look beautiful, it needs to look consistent and make you want to work with it. By that Mac OS 9 had the best graphics: simple, effective and nothing that distracts.

It is true that a GUI makes working with simple tasks simpler, and hard tasks more difficult.

For example, how do you make a listing of all the files and directories on your computer under Windows? How many clicks will that take?

The question is not how to make that, the question is why would I want to do that?

But okay, I know what you mean and ofc you are right. Though you have to admit, you need the simple tasks 99% of the time and the hard tasks 1%.
There are even people (a majority I suppose) who never need to do hard tasks and for them failing to make simple tasks simpler is failing to provide them a better environment.
