Armstrong: too good to be true? Support Apolyton, buy Galactic Civilizations

Article is in French

According to L'Equipe, a test done on frozen urine samples given by Armstrong during his 1999 win in the Tour de France have shown that he was using EPO (érythropoïétine), which increases oxygenation in the muscles and can boost overall performance by up to 30%.
Overall, 12 samples returned positive for EPO, six of them belonging to Armstrong (the six other runners have not been identified in the article).

Haven't the French been trying to prove Armstrong had been doping since the beginning? I think I'll wait for verification .

There's a number of articles outhere but they all refer to the one from L'Equipe. I'm still reading but there are a few "questionables". One of them is that - from what i understand - the paper running the story was actually responsible for linking the samples to the runner.

A little common sense would make it dawn on anybody what's been going on.

Obvious, massive cheating by every single top rider made me lose all interest in the sport of cycling 7-8 years ago. I can be a bit slow...

I'm with Winston except for one thing. Even though they're all doped up, they're still good athletes. And Armstrong, no matter how dopped he could be, has done an extraordinary performance.

Ah, yes. I didn't say they weren't good athletes, they are. But they're cheats. And so, by the way, are the teams and the sponsors they represent. The cycling associations and the race organizers. Everybody involved with cycling know what is going on.

and he left his wife (who stood by him during cancer) for rock and roll hosebag sheryl crow

No, yout twit, his former wife left him. She married him while he was on his deathbed not thinking it would really be a longterm deal, ya know. Then he survived. Oops. So she's outta there.

Also, there was some religious friction, as his wife was becoming an ever-more devout Catholic, while Armstrong is a non-believer who is quite suspicious of organized religion.

oh i'm sorry, the proof that you included to support your argument was just so overwhelming (including calling me a twit) that not only did I change my mind (a 180), but I kept going right back around again (a 360)...

so really, your uber-argument was TOO effective!

The laboratory which did the testing did not link the samples to Armstrong. The samples were provided to them without any identification. L'Equipe - the newspaper with the story - says that they did a 4 month inquiry and were able to link the samples to the runner.

quote:

L”Equipe explains that after a 4 month inquiry on the 12 samples that did test positive for EPO, they were able to determine that 6 of them belonged to the American.

Detailing its method, the newspaper said that they compared the numbers of the urine samples taken from the American, from the anti-doping control documents filled by the doctors responsible for sampling during the 1999 Tour, and the numbers of the samples that tested positive for EPO according to the Châtenay-Malabry laboratory. According to L’Equipe, six of these numbers are a match.
