as far as marijuana is concerned, the only adverse effects as it pertains to the brain is in the case of memory... and the effect is not permanent... even in cases where life-long pot smokers were tested.

who, in my case, recommends marijuana (unofficially) because it regulates activity in a part of my brain that is overactive... it's a form of epilepsy (I don't have seizures though)

yes and no...

in terms of value of life?

IMO, if you are born (or in the case of fetus, if the mother intends to give birth) then it is what I consider to be a human life...

obviously, I don't think the value of an adult's life is more than a child's...

but in terms of how I would quantify someone's level of consciousness... certainly adults are more developed, and they are able to achieve a higher level of consciousness than a child. In simpler terms... children are stupid.

What I would say, is that a embryo is a human person, just like any other person because they have the intrinsic capacity to function as a person. It's like a bucket. It doesn't need to have water already inside to be able to hold water.

I am really starting to like Chavez, mainly because he doesn't take any crap from Bush.

Chavez is a threat to nobody and I want someone on here to have the balls to tell me exactly what kind of threat he. Nobody can do it.

I thought it was cool that he offered to help poor Americans with cheap gasoline. I doubt he could do it but it sounded good.

Back to Robertson, he reflects the views of the majority base that supports the neocons.

I flipped to it today on my way up the dial and they had a segment that caught my attention.

HIGH GAS PRICES FUELING TERROR

it was a segment about how oil from the mideast funds terrorism... I thought, "wow I'd expect this from a left-wing FoxNews"

but then, at the bottom, they had some "facts" and I saw something interesting...

My position hasn't been "human is speical" for a long time. AFAICT, that never was my position since I started posting on 'Poly.

The only thing I can see that can set human beings apart from other animals is sentience. That would make sentience special, however, not us. Or rather, any animal with sentience is as special as us.
