I've done it once before,and my reaction at first was like Sava's, but after calming down a bit and speaking to some people about, i decided to go do it. The case was very dull and seemed very obvious what the outcome would be(which came to pass). Still i felt i had done my part in representing what a civillised society should be - and that is what its all about.
It's a pain, but serves a purpose.

In Canada, jury duty is much rarer since we lamost never have juries for civil trials and they don't exist for lower level crimes either (stuff equivalent to what you folks call misdemeanors). Even for the serious stuff, defendents can elsect to be tried by judge alone. So I have never received any jury notice nor do I personally know anyone that has.
I actually think it would be fun to go to jury selection-- It would also be dead easy to get out of being selected. All you need to do is state your belief that
a) all defendents are guilty OR
b) the police usually frame people
elect one based on your ideology.
That said , I wouldn't mind being on a jury sometime. Its part of a process I like to believe in. The thing is that I have heard that most lawyers hate the idea of a lawyer on a jury

Az, Dis: that's fine... I respect your opinion... I disagree with it.
The thing you guys have to understand is. I don't care about trying to improve things anymore. I care deeply about many things in this country (and world) that are ****ed up. But I've given up. I mean, it goes beyond just this jury duty thing.
some decisions I've made:
I am not going to participate in society in any way. IMO, society is ****ed up and humanity is not worthy of my effort in terms of trying to improve it. That's why I sit at home all day. In the short term, I've decided not to commit suicide. Particulary because my father's health is not so good and I don't want to upset him (or my mother). But nevertheless... I am going to commit suicide. Probably shortly after my father passes.
I'm going to isolate myself. Other than my immediate family, and a few other relatives; not many people care about me. And I want it that way. That way, when I'm gone, it won't hurt that many people.
I'm not going to have children. Sure, I'd like to. But I am not going to. IMO, it would be cruel to bring a child into this world.
Some people can be happy living in their own little world, working at some job, meeting someone, getting married, raising kids, creating a family... even going to something like jury duty, pretending like they are making a difference.
But they're not.
Hell, if 40 million plus Democrats are powerless to force even minimal positive change in this country, what hope do I have?
And I'm not going to waste my time stuck in some sort of dillusional mindset (also known as 'hope') with the notion that I can affect some sort of change.
Lots and lots of people smarter than me and with more resources than me, have been unable to force change.
I hate this world. I'm going to leave it. And I hope all record of my existence slowly fades into oblivion.
I don't want to be associated with humanity.
I want an asteroid to kill us so we can't **** up the rest of the universe.
