It's a slow news season. But the last hurricane that directly hit NO was 1965's Betsy, which was only a Cat 3 and still caused about 70 deaths, IIRC...

If people are evacuated early, like they have been this time, loss of life assosciated with hurricanes is very low...like I said earlier in the other thread, the move by the mayor to evacuate has probably saved many many lives.

I can't remember any major city ever evactuating like this before, even in Florida, Miami hasn't ever evacuated, have they?

I know the Keys ALWAYS evacuate but don't know about major cities there...

The thread title has become far more appropriate in the last few days.

Lets hope damage is not as bad as the warnings have been. According to the statistics by the Weather Channel, most of the people who will die form this storm will die from inland flooding, so Mississippi could have more fatalities than Louisiana.

Thorn the storm that hit Ala, Georgia, and Fl drop a number just before coming on shore, so maybe, just maybe this one will do the same. As far as death go, we will just have to wait and see what happen.
