there have been some chopper flights. They tried to land, but were afraid of the throngs of people. They made their drops from 10 feet above the ground. This drop I'm talking about in this case was at the superdome.

the flights have been very low. the only I can answer is because so many aircraft are overseas. But I'm not sure if that completely covers it. As even civilian helicopters can be used to drop food and water. So you can't blame everything on Iraq .

But it looks like the only relief has been at the superdome, and that has been insufficient. They should be dropping supplies in other parts of the city. Though if they are shot at (as there have been cases of), then it's too dangerous to get a helicopter close to the ground.

the only other solution is to use parachutes to drop supplies. In that case you do need military craft. And they are probably overseas.

Too bad we can't parachute drops to get in suplies. Though that may not be useful in densely populated areas (could hit buildings etc). We shouldn't be doing drops only in 1 or 2 areas. Clearly there are people all throughout the city. Yes I understand you can't drop stuff in the water. And this is probably why they aren't doing it. There is no way to make it float and waterproof I'd imagine. This sucks.

I can't blame him. His career is over anyways. It surely is over after these comments. He's even calling out his governor. He's cussin' up a storm. He's really pissed. Of course I don't exepct the governor will get re-elected after this either. Her career is hurtin. Not that careers matter in a crisis such as this. But I just thought I'd mention it. I'm always looking to the future.

I believe it was the convention center situation. Everyone knew about the superdome. It was on tv. But until last night, even the media didn't know about the convention center.

And they are different places. New orleans is a major destination for conventions (after Vegas of course)

I think the government has been doing a good job. You have to remember that government facilities and infrustructure are just as mauled as the civilian. FEMA is already spending 500 million a day, and there are 7 US warships, including 3 large deck amphibs offshore.

There are over three million victims of this storm, if all but an estimated 20,000 in the center of NO are being taken care of to some degree, that is an amazing success.

I'd been asked to post this here by Ming. This is what happens when you equip a whole nation with guns. The situation just can not be managed. There's healthy distrust of government, now this has gone too far.

Not sure there PA... in any nation, there are going to be weapons. Now, in anarchy situation like this, the strongest ones will rule, and rule with their twisted iron fist. This means, the looters have no opposion. No one even has marginal chance of defending their own property or house, or loved ones.

Of course, when everyone packs, it gets crazy. But if no one packs, then only the looters and criminals are packing.

THat's NOT good in anarchy, as we see they are not exactly pulling back with their ways, but only increasing, trying to capitalize on the situation, like the scum they are.

I would, at this stage, rather have my own weapon because no one can protect you except you yourself. Until situation gets stabilized. And it's mostly these criminals and gangsters who create the violence, at least have been, AFAIK. I'd rather have weapons myself too.

Just heard some soundbytes from the mayor...he sounds pissed and desperate. Honestly, I think politically wise he would make it. He sounds like he doesn't give a damned about politics or whatever. He wants help and he's not giving a press brief.

All I heard him say is that he wants Greyhound busses in the city and he wants troops to restore order....(after that, it was cussing about how messed this situation is).
