Oh dear, reaching into the playbox are we ?

I'd say you had them, just couldn't appreciate them.
But I was certainly short-changed, wasn't I ?
I'm not a grammar nazi- I questioned the paucity of the contents of your lexicon, Sava, which is a different matter.
That study course sure looks like a necessity now.
I'm not an elitist- although I'm not sure what exactly you're implying by that- someone with a bigger vocabulary than yours, someone who can read other people's posts correctly, someone who can count to twenty without removing their army surplus boots ?
And what exactly is an 'art nerd', Sava ?
A person who doesn't confuse rolleyes smilies for intelligent replies ?

For someone who claims to not be an elitist, you certainly make a lot of assumptions about my abilities. I'll make this short because I want to eat lunch. I don't come to these forums to write essays, nor to impress people with my linguistic repertoire.
And sorry to knock you off your pedestal, but you are too predictable. Someone such as yourself, who writes properly on an internet gaming forum, would no doubt take exception to an obvious misquote. I refer to where I said "But if the best you can do is saying I smell like 'rancid government cheese'." You bit my troll hook, line, and sinker by insulting my apparant lack of comprehension skills.
I engaged in this trolling to illustrate the following point. As the main topic of this thread is concerned, my point is correct and you were unable to refute it. After pointing this out, you began your trite little ad hominem games to compensate for your wounded pride. I can empathize with you molly. Judging from my behavior on this forum, it must be embarassing to not be able to win a debate against someone who acts the way I do. But if anything is to be learned from this experience, it should be that I act this way by choice. Think of me what you will. But believe it or not, I'm not a stupid person. I'm quite adept at manipulating people and picking apart their weaknesses.
I really have nothing else to add to this discussion. My points regarding video game violence still stand. If you have anything further to add that is relevant to the topic, please feel free to do so.

No, Sava, that was you.

Oh and look up the definition of elitism-
quote: For someone who claims to not be an elitist, you certainly make a lot of assumptions about my abilities. |
Sava
It seems you may be confused. I just address your mistakes, not what I imagine to be your abilities.
See I didn't :
quote: ....bite (your) troll hook, line, and sinker by insulting my apparant lack of comprehension skills. |
I merely pointed out that where you said I claimed:
quote: (you) smell like "rancid government cheese", |
Sava
in fact I said:
quote: Your last posts sure smell like rancid government cheese. |
which is a different thing altogether.
The notion you were spoon-feeding me trolls is really quite hilarious- so insulted were you by your misreading of my post, that you threatened:
quote: ...to stop reading this thread. |
Sava
That sure sounds like a:
to me.
In fact, if anyone is feeding anyone else, it would seem to be me; you responded with a post full of nothing but:
quote: (a) whole row of rolleyes |
Sava
apparently in order:
quote: ...to mock your rolleyes, newb |
Sava
which ended the post previous to that one.
You accuse me of being an :
and yet the one communicating in Nerdish or Geeklish
quote: "raged" is internet jargon, newb def. |
Sava
is you.
I have no wounded pride, Sava.
Having you reply to me is like being savaged by- how did Denis Healey put it ? a dead sheep.
With that valuable course of study I suggested, and perhaps an acquaintance with the likes of Mencken, Parker, Bierce, Wilde and Shaw, rather than back issues of 'High Times' and 'Maui Wowie Monthly', and a few years of experience under your belt, you may one day achieve the dizzy heights of multiple sarcasm.
quote: I act this way by choice. |
Sava
Indeed you do.

Have a nice day.
for anyone who is interested, heres the full quote from Jefferson (in a letter to John Adams)
"There is a natural aristocracy among men. The grounds of this are virtue and talents. Formerly, bodily powers gave place among the aristoi. But since the invention of gunpowder has armed the weak as well as the strong with missile death, bodily strength, like beauty, good humor, politeness and other accomplishments, has become but an auxiliary ground of distinction. There is, also, an artificial aristocracy, founded on wealth and birth, without either virtue or talents: for with these it would belong to the first class. The natural aristocracy I consider as the most precious gift of nature for the instruction, the trusts, and government of society. And indeed, it would have been inconsistent in creation to have formed man for the social state, and not to have provided virtue and wisdom enough to manage the concerns of the society. May we not even say, that that form of government is the best, which provides the most effectually for a pure selection of these natural aristoi into the offices of government? The artificial aristocracy is a mischievous ingredient in government, and provision should be made to prevent its ascendency. "

Porn promotes immorality too. What's so special about a video game whose entertainment value comes from its coverage of taboo subjects? |
I didn't play San Andreas, but if Vesayen is to be believed, it attempts to make the game's criminal action into a moral matter. It's not like simple "coverage" of taboo subjects, like in the previous GTAs, but it sounds like actual promotion.
If San Andreas maintained a distance between the player and his actions (i.e., if it maintained the humour or the amorality of the previous GTA titles), I wouldn't be bothered. But if San Andreas is preachy, it is promotion.
For the record, I have been confronted to many disturbing things on the internet (browsing the Portal of Evil does it to people). But the most disturbing thing I ever saw on the Internet was not a picture or a video. It was not an outrageous hate text. It was an articulate, polite text: only one that defends pedophilia as a moral choice. A text to which I suppose many pedophiles flock to feel better about themselves and about what they do.
If San Andreas is preachy about what it does, it's in a completely different league than the previous GTA titles. Just like that pro-pedophile text is in a completely different league than, say, mediatic coverage of pedophilia.
