Absolutely, dear boy. Although I think Henrik won't let things get too peaceful for too long, anyway.

Sorry my move was a bit later than advertised, Chris - helping the girlfriend to move in!!

As people seem to be giving the narratives a miss, here's the English basics:

Founded a colony in Savannah, Georgia. (Not that Georgia will exist as such for a couple of decades..). Took the Great Lodge and made a cease fire with the Iroquois.

Traded a bit. Built stuff. Must dash - boxes to shift!

Game posted to Chris & here.

Guys, John and I were talking, and I mentioned that in normal Multi-player, we don't use diplomats and spies, because they unbalence the game.

He said he would remove them from the next version of Colonies, so I had a thought:

How about we limit their use in our game to just establishing contact?

Let's forget the bribe and tect stealing stuff.

What do you guys think?

Something is seriously wrong with this savefile I had to make 2 moves save, reload and make 2 new moves, if I didnt the game crashed on me, I had it crash on me about 5-7 times.
That's not how civ is usualy (in my experience).

Well my turn is played and I have "liberated" 3 more irouquese cities.
Lets not give up on the naratives, I will try to continue writing them as of my next turn.

Also the next version of collonies, would that be the v. 3.2 that I hear Arne talking about, John?

Also, Manuel, why do you persist in transforming terrain into those non-existant "coal, river/horses, river" tiles?

That is a bug you should correct for the next version John, if you want terraforming to be impossible just set terraform to be equivilent to the same terrain that is terraformed, so that we dont get those wierd ether tiles...

Henrik,

Maybe Chris's diplo bugs have moved into the French turn as well.

What year are we in, then, Mate? 1696? 1697? Or do you mean unit moves?

Presumably your liberated cities are Huron?

Colonies v3.2 is certainly in the pipeline, and Arne is helping me improve the graphics. I will be releasing Bonaparte II for single- and multiplayer beta first, though. Probably next week. Any of you guys want to be involved with that?

There is a terraforming bug in Civ whereby if you transform a terrain that the rules file says you can't - you get weird "see-through" special terrains. I first noticed this in Hellas.

Please don't expoit this bug, guys. It distorts the game. Maybe I will have to allow terraforming of all terrains, just make most of the results useless. I will review this for Colonies 3.2

Manuel, would you agree to the "no tech-stealing" restriction after you get Flintlock, then? I'm sure the French will trade it to you on Jan 1st, 1700 if you haven't got it by then, anyway.

I would love to

A multiplayer game (probably not pbem if you want the testing to get finnished this year ) would be cool.

I would be happy to playtest it in sp too

Will there by events for "priceships" as I was reading hornblower books when your first Bonaparte came out I remember wishing that it was possible to capture ships.

quote:

I use this fix for that:
Transform of Grassland, gives grassland, etc

That way you cannot change the terrain with transform, but you still avoid the bug.

quote:

Please don't expoit this bug, guys. It distorts the game.

Well I think this might also be the source of atleast my problems, all of the crashes happened when viewing the carribian, where few tiles have been changed to this terrain (the tile under mexico city for example).

Manolo, I can't start a tech trade, but you could, so if you wish, you could trade for flintlock with the Dutch.

Henrik, you scarred me! I'm busy finishing off the Iroquois!

John, viva L'Empereur!
We could try it as a lan game on a weekend, we have a five hour difference, but if you started at say, 3 in the afternoon your time, that would work, as it's 10 in the morning here!
That would work with Henrik also, I think.
Also, I would love to be.....THE CORSICAN USURPER!

So, are we agreed?
After Spain gets Flintlock, no diplos?

I thought it was only a "graphic" bug, and the terrain "effects" were part of the scn (that's why I asked Henrik the "Improved Agriculture", dya remember?), in any case I've already taken much advantage of it, how am I supposed to fix it now? little by little?

Manuel,

If you don't like the tech stealing ban, we won't go for it. After all, the Spanish stand to lose most by it. However, maybe you would consider a deal to agree to it (everyone gifts you one tech, after which you can't steal from them ever again, for example).

I shall remove the diplos from Colonies 3.2 entirely, or just stop the tech stealing in the same way a city-bribing is stopped for humans. Playtesting should resolve.

Any about terraforming. What is done is done. Just don't do it any more, everyone. Another bug for 3.2 to address!

Chris, your Napoleon complex will be indulged. I rather fancy the English - but I always play them (!) so if someone else wants them I would like to try the Austrians as well. An online game sounds excellent, and this coming weekend would be the best opportunity for a while as the girlfriend is away in Lisbon, but we should keep the players down to 3 or 4. A bigger PBEM multiplayer would be a useful test in a fortnight or so, but people would have to accept we would be unlikely to get beyond 20 moves or so. (Each turn is 2 months now, by the way.)

Manuel, is it your move (and do you want to play Bonaparte II)?

Henrik,

quote:
Could I have Prussia or Britain?

Can I put you down for Prussia at the moment? I think a four-way between France, Britain, Prussia and Spain or Austria would be enough for an on-line game at the moment. This is all contingent on me getting the events file up and working by Saturday, which should be possible.

I will post my progress here to start with, then start a new thread if we kick off successfully. The following week, we may start a multiplayer PBEM. For that I would like all 7 nations to be played. Vegard Martinsen is playing the Swedes and I will play Austria or Britain (whichever I don't play in the online game.)

Can I put any of you down for the PBEM? We would probably only play 20 turns or so, but it should still be fun.

Who will host the online game? I am happy to, and I control my server firewall. However, my IP is dynamic, so I would have to communicate that to you all once I was on-line. Are you all on AIM? If so, I will get myself registered on that too.

CIV II also has on-line audio chat within the game. Any of you used that feature?

Waku, do you fancy the Spanish, Austrians or British for an on-line game? I think all you guys have proved you're pretty reliable in the gaming commitmment stakes, so I would like to keep it amongst us for now.

Chris, glad you've finally built Proto-Industrialisation. In Amsterdam, I guess?

Well we are going to have guessts during saterday, but I could probably play some turns if we started at around 3 as sugested above (note: would it be 3 my time or 3 johns time, he is at gmt and I have CET I belive, so 3 his time is 4 my time ).
I could however play on sunday with no restrictions (well I imagine we would have to stop sometime but... )

Well I can't host due to my firewall (I've tried several times, but...), I think half of us are on AIM (Chriss and me), but that doesnt hinder the rest of you from getting it

Huh?
An Audio Chat, how do you start that?
I only saw the normal chat when playing mp (and I have played it several times too)...

French turn:

  • Only one rebbel huron city remains now...
  • Two slaves captured in Africa and sent to Noveaux Orleans.
  • I must've forgotten to hit ctrl-n last turn, some of my units had goto orders and a grenadier had moved up to the English trade posts in canada.
  • The french demands an official explanation to the warships reciding outside French collonies in north america.

I am actually on British Summer time until 28/10/01, which is an hour behind GMT. So 16:00 my time should be 16:00 CET and 15:00 GMT. OK?

I or Chris will host. We will sort that between ourselves and let you know when the Thread is started.

Have a look at Control Panel/Gaming Options/Voice Chat. Civ II MGE should be listed. It seems to be a simple Voice-over-IP think. Might play with it if we have the time and inclination, and everything else works well. (Unlikely )

English Diplomacy:

The "warship" is a privateer moving troops to attack the Iroquois. Don't worry.

1698 Support Apolyton or Terrorists Win

The defenders of the last Huron settlement, "Long Water", fought incredibly fiercly and for the first time during this war, victory was uncertain, however the superior french forces did eventually manage to beat the Huron braves in the Niagara Battle.
The english, seemingly disturbed by this activity in the border regions are not to worry, the last of the Huron threat has been overcome and the settlement of Long Water is expected to surrender within a month.
