	Banning of Civnation Support Apolyton, buy Civilization III: Complete

While I completely respect the fact that this is a private website, and it is the owner/moderators discretion as to who gets banned, I would just like to protest this banning.

The spirit of the internet and of Liberal Democracy itself is to expose these festering, rancid views to the clean light of day through debate and public viewing.

To 'ban' Civnation will merely reinforce his fantasyworld by making him a 'martyr'.

I agree that it would be nice to see a link posted or at least an official explanation of why CivNation was banned. We've seen examples in the past of people being restricted because of who they are rather than because they broke the rules any more than the next guy. Could this be another such case, since Seeker felt compelled to draw attention to this? Until we have some more facts, all we can do is guess. Which is a little troubling.

Hmm. Another case of a poster being told not to repeat something that arguably isn't against the rules, the moderator full well knowing the poster cannot comply from the nature of his belief/political stance/personality etc. - and thus will be banned instantanously. Much to the contentment of the majority of the other participants in the debate.

Mission accomplished. Yay!

Pathetic, really. But PC, so nobody will lose any sleep over it. Not until it becomes more widespread across the OT that is, and starts to affect a larger fraction of posters. If it does, people will start taking notice. A few already have.

I don't think it's very becoming for Apolyton.

Just mouthing off and saying that gays are immoral wouldn't have gotten him banned, in my opinion. What really ticed me off was his use of the word "f-ggot". It wasn't even a joke. That word is a purely hate word, as there are many other words ("gay" or "queer" are two obvious examples) which would have gotten his point across and would, by themselves, not be offensive. I'd been arguing pretty good naturedly with him for two days, but started needling him a little bit toward the end. In response, he lost all semblance of rationality, and started striking out. I feel bad that my actions might have provoked the reaction which got him banned, but at the same time, I think he knew what the consequences were going to be. His response to Ming's warnings was not enough, by itself, to justify banning him, but then again, I'm surprised that Ming even gave him a second chance, given the content of his ealier post.

I'm a bit confused about that paranoid thing. Wouldn't life be much easier if you try to give the impression of who you really are instead of not being what you don't want to be. That's one thing I've learned, just being yourself makes you feel much more comfortable. And not only for gay people, for everyone.
