Schism Support Apolyton, buy Civilization III: Complete

The date in my game is circa 1950 and I'm pretty angry the Greeks won't split when I take their capitol, since two civs have disappeared in the last 50 turns. Anyone knows of some conditions required for a schism to happen? Also, can it affect a human player?

the greeks need to be huge, possibly the biggest civ to split. also i've only had civs split after my foriegn minister says that the greeks(or whoever) are a large and powerful empire but there are rebellious forces that could be set loose if the capital were to fall. or words to a similar effect. i've never let the ai take my capital when i'm big enough for a split. and then i can always pay to move my capitol. i'd rather sell my palace than let it be sacked by the ai

We had another discussion about this theme last week but I can't seem to find the link. I'll try to sum up what I remember.

1. The civ conquering the capital city apparently has to be BELOW the civ to be split on the PowerGraph.

2. A capital city will move if the civ has at least 1000 gold and a city of at least half the size of the capital city with a minimum size of 8.

3. If a civ splits, the new civs will have a capitol city is the old civ had a pre-conquer treasury of at least 1000 gold. Otherwise, the new civ won't have a capital.

4. There seems to be some randomness involved since what caused a civ split in one game didn't work under ALMOST THE EXACT SAME conditions in another.

There are other things as well but I can't remember them.

Support Apolyton buy from Amazon

here are the links you mean:
1)prevent them to escape
2)Civ split
here you'll find some info, but there isn't yet any certainty about the reason to make a civ split.

I hope you can find the final reason.

I thought this idea had been debunked? There were anecdotes of the supreme civ causing other civs to split, IIRC. Hmm... the debate continues!

i read somewhere (in the manual iirc) that in order for a civ to split it has to have the highest population when it loses its capital

You may remember correctly. If so, the manual is wrong on that, too. Many of the anecdotes that came up in the discussions have been splitting a civ that was in the middle of the pack.

Sorry to seem like a sour grape in this thread!

I agree about the testing. I started to do some testing but couldn't reproduce my results using almost the same exact conditions.

Therefore, I think there is some sort of randomness involved. But I would love it if someone proved me wrong and came up with a definitive rule.

I actually remember VERY small civs splitting after someone took their capitol... I don't think it has to be the biggest. on the contrary, one time it even happened that the capitol of the new civ was taken, so it split again... now there were 2 small civs and one medium sized one.... very funny, all of them were toast after "a hand ful" of turns
