Rebels Support Apolyton or Terrorists Win

Hello,

Does anyone know how to cause a civ to break up into 2 civs? This happened to me only once during a game when I took my enemy's capitol their empire split into two seperate factions. I tried again in another game but it never happened. Is the a way I can cause this to happen all the time?

Why does a new civ start only sometimes when you destroy there civ and not everytime?

thanks,
Ben

"I got it, I got it" [waves off shortstop]

1) A civ can split in to two when (a) it is the most powerful civ (as measured by the power graph) and (b) its capital is sacked by another civ. This doesn't always happen; there's a randomizing factor involved. But that's the only condition under which it can happen. There may be a way to make it happen all the time by fiddling with rules.txt, but that's beyoind me; I'm sure someone else knows, however.

2) It seems as if civs will restart only up until a certain date, but I've never seen a definitive answer as to which date (1000 AD feels right to me, but that's a wild guess). Also, civs will only restart if there's a decent place to do so -- inhabitable land at least some disatnce from the other civs. So, in a game with a lot of early expansion on a small or medium map, it's possible that even before 1000 AD (or whatever the date cutoff is), there'd be no place to restart. Of course, you can always keep civs from restarting altogether by selecting "no restart" on the custom rules menu at the start of a game.

D'oh! Right, I forgot about that; there has to be an available color for the new civ to become, since you can't have two civs of the same color in the same game.

been there done that Get a bigger avatar today!

You should try to find the treads Civ split and 'prevent prevent them to escape (found the links,I lost them somehow out my list??)

We did some test there to get rid of some of the previously used conclusions.
the conclusions where:
(for splitting)
*to split a civ the splitter has to be lower on the power graph then the splitted civ(NR6 can split NR1, 2,3,4 and 5 but not 7,NR1 can't split anyone,...)=> this means that it is not necessarily the strongest civ that will split.
*Even small civs can split(6 cities when there are empires of over 5O cities)
*The capital has to be captured(but there is no effect of the creation of a new one.
*The civ is split in 2 new empires based on the distance to the capital(if done with huge empires you can clearly see a circle in which everything still is the old empire and what is beyond is the new empire.)
*there must be an empty slot(ie <7civs)

(to restart a civ)
*make sure you have allowed it in the rules sitting when starting the game
*there must be an empty slot(is the case since you just obliterated the old civ )
*there must be unknown territory that can be used to found a civ
(after the Apollo program the entire map is known so then it will not happen anymore)

I have seen in a test (autoplay-no human)that the weakest civ (3 cities) of 3 civs also splits by losing the capital to the strongest AI-civ.

Support Apolyton, buy Galactic Civilizations

Apparently the citizens decided "this is bunk, we're going to form our own nation."

It amazes me that so many people still insist that a split can only occur if a lesser civ captures a greater's capital, despite numerous anecdotes proving this false. O well, maybe they don't lurk around this forum as much as I do...

Put an end to popups!

maybe because no one has had such a situation under controlled(trail and error)circumstances.

(also a problem with the powergraph is that it has an upper limit where everything beyond gets flattened out )

Open, center map on Tenochtitlan. Aztek civ will split in a few turns. Germans or americans will conquer the city. germans has better chances of doing this.
