MtG,
Far be it from me to tell you how to do your job, and obviously it would be wrong to go back and change the punishments now, but...
PH was way out of line with that comment. His punishment was well-deserved. But what he said is one thing. Advocating mass murder is quite another. Just a little humble feedback to consider the next time this happens. (And let's not kid ourselves; there will be a next time.)

I agree it's a different scale if it was a serious comment - but I don't take his mindless childish little temper-tantrum rants seriously. Especially wrapped up in that "in a Carini administration..." or however he phrased it BS.
Gian's now in the penalty doubling phase. After a while, I get sick of people who don't listen or don't care, so I just double each ban. That's why CivNation hasn't been back (under that name, and I haven't caught any DL's. After pulling a 16 week ban, we had a little discussion. At least he was honest enough to say that he had no intention of following the forum rules, and that he would do his homophobic rants anytime he wanted if he was allowed to post again. I had a very simple solution to that problem. Giancarlo's now headed down the same route, so he can wise up and learn to shut up, or I'll take care of that issue for him.

Interesting how 'choking on semen' is regarded as twice as bad as firing live bullets into a gay rights parade....
Grow up indeed...

I'll thank you not to quote him so I don't have to see crap like that. He's pissed because I put him on my Ignore list due to his explanation of why white people are better than minorities.
EDITED to include his quote
quote: When other races have problems with society they riot (I.E. Rodney King, etc). I say good job that white people arent rioting over this and settling it in a civilized manner |
"This" refers to this.

Interesting how you come up with conclusions based on reading my mind. I didn't know you had so many talents. Interesting how you also don't bother to read what's in the same thread that's inconvenient to your little point.
The level of offensiveness of the remark and the length of the ban are not connected.
Provost Harrison started the threadjack, he kept it up, and he's been one of the crew that has fun pulling Giancarlo's chain. (edit - for months now) My banning him is to make an example and "motivate" the rest of that group to drop this BS. He's also got the brains to know better, he was just doing it for his (and others) entertainment.
Giancarlo's ban (which already had a week coming from last time), deals just with him. Since I've already banned him a few times for the same thing, he's now the second guest (after CivNation) in my ban-doubling program. Every time he gets banned for the same thing, the length doubles. When he gets to 16 weeks (a la CivNation), we have a little chat, and he's either in, or he's all the way out (a la CivNation)
There's about a dozen people who like to play the "pull Gianni's chain" game. Giancarlo is in his own little category of stupidity
Zhu -
Get a clue. Gian can't "threaten" diddly-squat.
Typical Giancarlo rant: "When my military coup takes over the US, everyone is going to blindly follow my orders and shoot everyone I don't like, because I'm charismatic and a great leader blah blah ****ing blah"
It's not a threat, it's a pathetic, childish tantrum with no connection to any reality.
CB2034 - glad you approve of the job I'm doing. That'll be two days for the name-game with KH's handle.
Rogan again - it doesn't deserve a banning until I actually see it, or get a complaint about it.

And the mods look as if they don't give a fig about any poster, and acted too late and too harshly. There isn't the moderator presence there used to be, allowing stuff like this to go on. There's been worse Giancarlo baiting than what PH did, but obviously it was by people the mods liked (the middle-aged Americans), or the mods just didn't even see it.
Hence my proposal that we need another mod.
And this time it should be a British or European poster for a ****ing change.
At least then we'll see a less heavy-handed attitude to jokey insults, which seem to be more accepted on our side of the Atlantic. |
Second that. There does seem to be large differences between what people can get away with depending on what time it is, who they are etc.
I also agree that some of PHs comments would have gone down well in an (educated) UK pub (though the subject might have been slightly offended), whereas questioning someone's sexuality in the US seems to be just about the most offensive thing you can say. In the UK, if you're offended by someone's jokey insult, ignore it if you can't think of a fitting retort, otherwise trade some witty barbs (largely in jest) and get over it.
