And one more thing. Dutch people don't like to be called Germans . In fact it is just about the worst insult possible .

and sorry bout slight misunderstanding, when i said german i didnt mean German as in Duschland (sp), i meant as in Germanic tribes of norther europe, centered around presen day Germany/austria are.

If you mean Germans as 'citizens of Germany', then the Dutch, Austrians, and English are out.

If you mean Germans as 'Germanic peoples', then the Dutch are in, but Einstein, Freud and Marx would be out.

That's a pleonasm. You can say either Hellenistic period or Greece (It's like saying the French France )

And I don't think the artistic explosion took place during the Hellenistic period (which basically means the Hellenization of the known world through the conquests of Alexander the Great) but during the Goldern Century of Pericles' Athens.

art is a matter of opinion. I'm sure you can find 3 billion people in this world who don't think that much of german "art"

Bach, Handel and hayden (sp) were the most influencial musicians on the barouque period. Beethoven wrote a symphony EVERYONE has heard, and all these guys will live on forever. some one like, i dunno, oasis or even the beatles wont even be in books in about 200yrs time. Bach and beethoven will......

_Its vibrant economy.
_Its state efficiency
_Its social democratic party as well as the Greens.
_Ramstein's videoclip with the apocalyptic title: «I want to see you stripped» (has a Hellenistic Arean approach to it).
_Its classical composers (but weren't they Austrian? )
_Herman Hesse's books and the German Romantics in general.
_Its dedication to the European vision

That's because they have very little understanding of how complex some of the classical music from that period is. As much as I like a lot of the folk music from different regions and periods, you simply can't compare Bach with Celtic fiddling, Asian Pentatonics or traditional African music. They might have just as much artistic value, but they certainly aren't as great accomplishments in terms of musical development, just as Renaissance painting is technically superior to Minoan art.
