ok..untill you've been to texas perhaps you also shouldn't say anything. I've been to washington state..that's pretty damn close in itself. ..that AND alaska. I'm not saying that Canada is bad. If you would reread what i've said, i've stated that Texas isn't as boring and as horrible as you've made it out to be. Hmmm...You can? You mean like visiting the largest University in the world? Seeing the Capitol building? Maybe going and seeing a band or two in the Live Music Capital of the world? Lake Travis? Town Lake? Good Mexican food? bah...what is in your precious canada that would warrant a trip to nowhere's ville instead of going to, say, colorado or oregon?

*sigh* and as far as cities go, Austin is one of the most picturesque with its rolling hills, and greenery everywhere. It isn't all concrete and parking lots like most big cities...

The mountains are bigger.
The Greatest Outdoor Show On Earth (Calgary Stampede) is held here yearly.
The weak Canadian dollar is always an incentive for tourists.
The people are nicer.
The air is cleaner.
We're not people who try to get rid of homosexuals because they are a "negative influence" at our universities, to boot...
For the academic types we also have the Royal Tyrrell Museum, the world renown Dinosaur museum.
The Badlands are sweet, HUGE deposit of dinosaur stuff.
World class olympic facilities that are modern and still maintained (if you're into sports).

Asher, do you have a big-brother America complex? There seems to be some sort of goodhumored rivalry between the US'ers and Canadians.

I remember when I visited Budget car rental at Vancouver airport. I had rent my car in Los Angeles and the woman there told me that when you go to Canada you have to buy insurance - $25.00 - just like when you go to Mexico. As if Canada is as dangerous as Mexico.. Anyways the guy in Vancouver asked me: "Are you American?" when I told him what the American woman had said. I answered no and he said that Americans were stupid.

I don't know.
I've lived in both places, but I'm Canadian.

California is beautiful (especially the bay area).
Colorado is, too.
Oregon/Washington are pretty nice.

But Texas I just never really liked. The accents annoy me, the weather is WAY too hot/humid, and the sites to see just didn't interest me at all.

By the way, Florida is nice, but unless you go to some of the theme parks and clubs, which are really expensive, it can be kind of boring. Going on about $1500 U.S. probably wouldn't be realistic unless you found a place to stay.

hmm...sorry i didn't do enough research. I just went to www.calgarystampede.com and it sounds a whole lot like several events we have in texas, and not nearly as much fun as, say, the houston rodeo and livestock show.

Texas does have the MOST themeparks...

tubing and rafting are two very, very different things!

Overall, I really don't see any reason to go to canada. I would rather go to FUN places than go to see cows and horses (we have plenty of those here) or bones.

You should have spent more time in Austin, it is about the most open minded town on the face of the planet.

And DM is right, you should go to San Antonio to see the River Walk, Alamo, etc, and the other major cities in texas. It has a lot to offer if you would give it a chance.

Anyway, I guess I could come to canada to look at the trees. Oh, NM, we have those here too...

You're right, millions (literally) of people attend it because it's nothing special.

Yeah? So do we. Got a bunch of friends going to Ozzfest in March, for example.

But these people all come and play at the exact same event.

It's not a stock show, it's a huge Midway, Stock Show, Rodeo, Music festival, etc.

Hell, Walrusskkkruch or whatever his name is came up here just for the Stampede last year.

So what's your big outdoor festival called? Where can I look up information?

Because Texas accents suck. I hate those so much.
Because Texas is too religious on average. Tells me something about the average mentality of people there.
Because Texas' landscape is nothing exceptional.
Because almost every Texan I've met pisses me off.

I hate to interrupt this battle, but I have two pieces of advice for our prospective tourist:

1. You have to see the Grand Canyon. Most beautiful place on earth.

2. Do not go to Nebraska. Not that you would, I just want to make sure you steer clear of this place.

Have fun man!
