Yes, they wouldn't want your cue to be 'chalked' too would they?
quote: For what reason therefore does their cause need attention if it is no longer threatened?
What has happened in the past surely is irrelevant. That we can all enjoy equality now, regardless of the past, is what matters. Having gay weeks, or black weeks, or female weeks just threatens the very equality that has been strived for. |
Well there is still a lot of homophobia present in this society believe it or not, and until very, very recently, homosexuality was not accepted by law, or far more restricted than heterosexuality, and people need to be educated. And also to send out a presence, that those who are 'still in the closet' should feel safe to come out, that there are people in the same situation. Relatively speaking, their movement is still in an early stage. As opposed to Women's Lib, which is not as needed as in the past, and hence, is far less active nowadays, because there just isn't the same need for it. I hope one day that too will be the same for homosexuals.

Feel an urge to get some fresh air, and get out from underneath that bridge again Stew
If you actually look around Stew, no one is forcing their sexuality on anyone. All they are doing is demanding they are respected for who they are and shouldn't be persecuted for who they are, and for that, a presence must be made clear and felt, so people like you do understand that there are gays in every walk of life, in every environment and in every place. Would you like it is someone asked you to restrain from holding hands or kissing your girlfriend in a public place (hypothetically of course). It's a very valid point...the simple issue is, let people be. You've been down a similar road before Stew relating to people who decide they don't want to dress as you do, who want to be a bit more outlandish with how they dress, and that you have not been surprised by any violence expressed towards them, and in some ways, quite supportive of it. So you need to get some issues sorted out in your mind. See the person, not the sexuality, or the clothing...I wish such horrid judgementalism would die in our society.

So be the good little silent invisible minority demographic, a nice sanitary section of the population pie chart, instead of saying "we exist"?
We get one week to "force" our sexuality on people. You guys get the rest of the year to kiss, hug, hold hands, flirt, tease, joke, gossip, and do the other myriad of different things that force your heterosexuality in our faces.
