Excellent scenario!
A few corrections: the Gurkhas were some of Nepal's (not Tibet) best warriors... they were hired by the British to fight for the empire. The British still hire Gurkhas to serve in their forces, even today. They were some of the best troops on any side in the war, and were famed for their loyalty and bravery. Maybe infantry with added attack and increased movement? They were often deployed in commando-style raids.
Also, this does favor Germany in terms of units, etc. Maybe restore the British Battleship (in addition to the destroyer) and give the USA "cheap" bombers, which would enable the US to come out with a massive airforce by the war's end. America's aircraft weren't better than Germany's on a 1v1 basis; the USAF was able to dominate the air war thanks to brute numbers.

You can have as many special units as you want as long as most stats are equal e.g
Zero, Hurricane, Wildcat and Messershmit 109a can all be different as far as name and graphic are concerned, but must be the same as far as production time and stats are concerned. Unless (since it is the best of these "level one fighter planes") the Zero is one of one, two, one per unit type (eg tank) or however many you want of the Japanese's special units. It is the special units that you must have the same amount of per civ. It is one of the basic rules of modding.
It does not mean, however that you can't have more than one plane, tank or whatever per civ. You could just make several stages or classes.
E.g Planes
Stage One(Class A) Stage Two(Class B) Stage Three(Class C)
Hurricane Spitfire Mk1 (SU) Spitfire Mk18
Wildcat Corsair Hellcat(SU)
Zero Mk1(SU) Zero Mk9 Kate
Messershmit 109a Messershmit 109d " Messershmit 109h"?
Stage Four (Bombers)(Class D) etc.
Lancaster
B17
Do some research
Do some research(SU)
You could make civ specific units for all civs. I'm sure the Dutch, Italians, Finnish etc. had there own planes.
You could do the same with tanks, infantry, ships, AAguns and more
It also won't be too hard to get a graphic guy to splash different colours on the planes to make them look different.
Its looking great and is good already, but lets make the end product perfect.
Cheers

Tridotan 1, Marines have been around for quite some time. France and England have had marines on their warships since the mid 1700's. America has had marines on its naval vessels since the nation came into existance. So, marines outdate commandos, unless I've forgotten something.

Can you make leader units? Like General Patton and General Rommel, that would be cool and it would add more realism, just throwing in an idea.
And what about the American airborne divisions that landed in France before the Normandy invasion, they were considered better than ordinary soldiers. And maybe consider making a Ranger unit? The British commandos helped train the American Rangers.

man the only thing I really wish that they would put into Civ3 is the ability to make scenarios. I don't care that much about multiplayer, but I love playing WWII scenarios.

Hey. You didn't respond to my feedback.

Of course and I'll be surprised if Grey Fox hasn't already.

Yes they did but not modern marines. This was just a name labelled to them afterwards by historians. The British Commandos of WW2 turned into the Royal Marines as I'm sure the American commandos did etc.
Marines as they are portrayed in the game are the same as commandos.
quote: The Americans had the Hellcat fighter, and the M-18 Hellcat tank destroyer (basically a fast tank designed to kill other tanks) |
Cool thanks, nice to be corrected. However this Hellcat tank could not have been significant enough to have placing ahead of the Lee and Sherman. And what the cukoo is the TunderBolt (Thunderbolt?)? As far as I'm aware no such tank existed.

JG 26 was a Luftwaffe fighter wing, not an actual plane. During the course of the war, the group flew Bf109s (which is probably what you were thinking of) and FW190s (that's Focke Wulfe, not just Focke). Already considered an elite squadron by the battle of Britain, this fighter group menace 8th Air Force B-17s throughout the entire war. Their squadron marking was a yellow nose cone. JG 26 flew in the West, the Russian Front, and in Africa. Many of their pilots went on to join JV44, an all ace squadron of Me262 pilots lead by Adolf Galland.
A couple of suggestions
Me109d, Me109f, Me109g
FW190A-2, FW190A-8, FW190D-9
US Tanks
M3A1 Stuart -> M4/76 Sherman -> M26 Pershing.
German Tanks
PzKpfw III "Panzer" -> Panther -> Tiger
US Bombers
B-17 -> B-24 -> B-29
British Tanks
Matilda -> Crusader -> Firefly

Hie,
I find this thread really interesting.
I think that the best way to translate the WW2 warfare technology is to use three time periods :
- Early war (39-40),
- Middle war (41-43),
- Late war (44-45).
As it was said earlier, you should focus on the "main" equipments used.
What I mean is that, for example, tanks like Tiger were used but were never the main tanks of the Wermacht. The late war main tank of the Wermacht was the Panther (that is far better than the Tiger I). The Tiger I is a middle war tank (first fights in september 1942) but the Panther is a late war (late 1943-1944). The Tiger was replaced by the Tiger II (named King Tiger) in 1944.
I think that for Germans, the correct sequence would be :
Pz III (D if you need a specific model) / Pz IV (F2 or G if you need a specific model) / Panther (the Tiger / Tiger II / Jagdpanther / Jagdtiger were never heavily produced due to the quantity of steel needed and their fuel consumption).
The same apply for Britishs, the main "medium" tank battle was the Sherman (named Mark V) so I would suggest a sequence like : Matilda I (this tank had only a machinegun as main weapon but had a thick armor for its time), Sherman Mark V and Firefly (or Churcill like you prefer)
For the Russians, the sequence should be : KV-1 (thick armor here again but Russians do not know what means thin armor), T-34-76 (the different models are not significative at the scale of Civ) and T34-85 (the JS and JS-2 were their late war heavy tanks but were not produced in the same quantities).
For the americans, I would use the sequence given by MDR, Stuart / Sherman / Pershing.
I think it should be realistic to limit the use of "heavy" tanks (late war tanks) to the main characters of WW2 (basically USA, UK, Germany and Russia).
I do not want to include Japan as they never produced heavily tanks (and most of the units produced were used in China, not against the US).
To conclude, I think that the German tanks must be better during all the war. Germany lost to the industrial capabilities of the Allieds, not to their superior armors...
The best way to balance it is to make the german tanks better but more expensive (the T-34 and Sherman must be, by far, less expensive). Germany lost 1 Panther to 5 Shermans or 3 T-34 in direct fights to give you an idea of the difference of quality between these steel monsters (the factor linked to the crews quality is the reason of the ratio between the T-34 and the Panther...). During the late war period, a lot of germans tanks were destroyed by planes.
In anycase, good work Grey Fox !
