I think that people of Quebeck would like to secede due mainly to such comment coming from "english" cultured people (with or without ) . Lot of intolerence from both side. Too bad.

Since we have somewhat such problem in France too : Corsica and Little Britain. Some people wanna learn their 'native' language. Few time ago the gouvernment decide to reject the demand :
French only will be spoken in public shool. They can still learn their "native" language as a secondary language. Or they can go in private shool where their language is spoken.

But the problem of Quebec is different from ours.
Little Britain is fully integrated in our Nation (very few morron wanna secede) most people look themself as french & britons, and in Corsica the problems is many independentist groups are Mafias and steal peoples for their own interest.

Yes, BC and Saskatchewan don't know what they want either.

Alberta is consistent.

Alberta's much more conservative than Ontario. There's a big gap there...

The only reason we're intolerant is because they take our money and do stupid things with it, like enforce those French language laws which only detur business.

The French have historically made very, very silly decisions, and the Quebec referrendum is a classic example of the French train of thought.

If comments like that can drive them away, then I say go for it. It's not as if we need them, and I'd personally be quite happy that we don't need to hear about them whining on the news while Alberta's the real province getting the shaft in politics.

Asher--

Do you honestly think the benefits of Quebecois secession would outweigh the negatives? Economic loss, loss of international prestige, border issues, loss of population, etc.?

Economic loss and loss of international prestige happen when Quebec is part of Canada.

I have no issues with that at all. I don't think there'd be any border issues, the borders are quite clearly defined today.
Loss of population? Again, I don't really see that as a problem. We don't need Quebec to survive. They probably need Canada to survive though. The fact that they constantly whine and threaten to leave is annoying, and how the federal government keeps bending over backwards to keep them apart of Canada is frustrating.

Avatar Enlargement: We've got the solution

I don't mean border disputes, I just mean that one significant chunk of Canada being cut off from from another chunk.

Personally, I don't think Canada or Quebec would weather separation particularly well.

But ay yi yi, those Maple Leaf-Canadien games would be brutal.

I don't see why Canada would be affected negatively by Quebec leaving. Economically not much would change. Politically there'd be less money going to Quebec to keep them happy.
