Getting back to the topic of this thread : you'll get no argument from me about getting rid of the monarchy. Any amount spent on it is a waste.
As for the Senate, of course it needs refoooooooorming. And since we're not going to do away with it, we should use it -more-efficiently.
As for the method to be used to name the senators... i wouldn't mind having another elected body.
You do run the risk of getting a mirror of the representation you have in the House of Commons, but i also think we could use it as a balancing mechanism.

Now the novelty is wearing off, and the federal government pisses me off more every day, it seems. By the time I move away when I'm done university I'm sure I'll be as right wing as Floyd. One of the weird things about all of this is that I am still trying to figure out which Ontario interests have been served by the current Liberal regime. Ontario ships billions of dollars eastwards with no real gain from what I can tell. The provincial government is deprived of the health and education transfers it should be getting and then the people of Ontario and the Liberal government blame Mike Harris's Conservatives, but then go on to re-elect them anyway. Maybe Ontarians know that Mike Harris is telling the truth, but if that is the case why vote Liberal federally?
We have got to be the most bone-headed province in the land. Ontario's interests would be far better served by voting for more conservative parties federally because in most respects we are far more similar to Alberta and BC than to Quebec and the Maritimes. The only thing I can think of is that Ontarians vote the way they do to "keep the country together". But even that may not be in Ontario's interest. The government of Ontario even came out with a study about how Ontario could and would benefit from Quebec seperation. Like I said, we're the most bone-headed province in the land. The reason BC and Alta should be pissed off at us is not because we do everything in our own interest, but because we don't! What we do is in no one's interest but that of the Liberal Party of Canada.

There are Westerners, and Quebecois, and Newfies...but the people living in Ontario are not Ontarians where it counts, they're Canadians.

Your logic is flawed in that Ontario is not serving the Nation's interests, but their own. But since it's such a large province, and because Quebec and the marintimes are full of people without a clue when it comes to politics, the liberals continue to dominate.

You're only kidding yourself if you actually think Ontario's voting liberal to serve national interests rather than regional. Because under their reign the nation has certainly become far less unified, and in the past they've screwed over one of the wealthiest provinces in the land out of their own greed and ignorance.

Out of state university costs far more than in-state. Same system as how it works in Canada, Tingkai.

It saves you a LOT of money to go to the local institutions when possible. And considering the local institution is damn good in the field I want, all the more reason to finish up here before moving back to California.

As for canada going to a republic... The US is nothing more then a glorified elected monarchy where the leader has absolute power. Every 4 years you have 2 parties basically made up of the same type of people putting up the biggest idiot they can find for election. This "idiot" then has absolute power for 4 years. In canada the prime minister answers to parliament and only the sitting government can introduce finacial bills and budgets. One the plus side in the US you can actually vote for your leader, and you can vote for your local representive. If you took a cross between the cdn and US system you might get something that works..
