Boddington can be a source of comic relief sometimes. He claims that I am heterophobic.

Let's check my record here:

1) I have a closer relationship with my mother, who is religiously Catholic after coming out to her.

2) I have a closer relationship with my older brother after coming out to him.

3) My three older sisters have made an effort to accept me after coming out to them.

4) I have friends who are straight, and they always enjoy hanging out with me, since I can relate with heterosexuals without offending them for who they are.

That means ----- I am not heterophobic.

And Boddington, go back to my previous posts --- you misunderstood my argument about the issue.

Let me throw a question in this discussion. Image a hetero couple, both are deaf for several generations, and the risk to have a deaf baby is almost 100%. Should this couple have "regular" children? (i.e. not adopted or using another gene pool)

While I disagree intensely with a couple selecting a baby with what many see as a disability, I also disagree with the title of this thread. The issue of designer babies and where we draw the line between acceptable and unacceptable applies not only to homosexuals but to everyone, and to give it such a slant directed solely at the homosexual community is unacceptable. It's one example picked out from an ocean just because it happens to be associated with a minority group.

So to sum up, sure it's despicable and abhorrent, but their sexuality makes no difference to the issue.

Nu-uh. Don't agree with this one at all. I disagree with selecting an attribute which gives the child a disability or similar. However, the system at the moment of going to a sperm bank and selecting genetic material from a large number of donors is still pretty random - it doesn't ensure that the couple get the designer baby that they want. True, they can pick sperm from a donor that they like the sound of, but it's not the same as forcing a disability on a child.

Here are some of my opinions on this:

1) Genetic manipulation in fetuses is acceptable, when you are deliberately creating towards a healthy baby, not to deliberately create a baby with a disability or illness.

2) Couples of all three sexual orientations have done genetic manipulation on fetuses -- not just homosexuals.

3) The alternative methods in conceiving children, along with adoption, allow homosexual couples to contribute to the perpetuation of the human species.

I'm amazed -- I found nothing overtly offensive in this quote from Boddington.

Yeah, I find it ethically most questionable to produce a deaf child. Why would any parent want to burden their child, and subsequent generations with such a disadvantage. Most bizarre.

But I fail to see the relevence of their sexuality. It has no bearing in this argument whatsoever.

Methinks Stew is on the troll again, but then again, is the Pope Catholic?
