End of school year tests?? Well, it does bring back long forgotten memories... Not the best memories from those years, though...
Have fun!!!
And don't worry: WE will keep on working on the scen...

Nobles as AM attack units sounds good to me.

Now about that: I just re-read Jingo, St-Leo, and they do speak about Knights being allowed to raise Regiments to fight for the City!! The reason why I don't want to use them as the "good offensive units" for A-M is that they are supposed to just suck!!
As you are re-reading the book, you'll notice that the main pre-occupation of the regimental leaders is to have "huge casualties", on which side not being really important (can't remember how it was put exactly, but that's the way it was written...)...
Now I agree, wizards with spell-missiles would mean that A-M can't be played by the AI!!
So we have to wonder what we prefer:
- excellent playability (and good fun) for player A-M with Wizards and Spells (upgrading them via tech, which would help to make a nice tech-tree!!) BUT without the possibility of playing solo against A-M, the AI being then just ridiculous...
- good playability for ALL civs, with the offensive unit for A-M being perhaps called Wizards as well, but just having good move and offense (??), and without the special touch magic could bring...
I would prefer the first possibility, but I wouldn't need too much convincing for the second one either...

Your graphics look cool, Leo. A tad worried about ripped graphics distracting from the Disc feel. Must use 'em in moderation.
|
I fully agree with that: the graphics look really good, but if we could use some more "typical" Discworld graphics as well, it would be nice!!
Ok, it's easy for me to say so, as I won't be the one doing those graphics... But who will???
quote:
Not very familiar with civs other than AM, so I'll let you people choose the graphics most suitable for them. AM, if you remember, should cover more than one square (the actual city + special terrain made to look like an extension of it). Are there any suitable graphics for that somewhere?
|
As St-Leo, I haven't seen exactly suitable graphics either, even though as saw a few ones used in the same kind of situation (BTW: I agree again, we need city terrain graphics for A-M). I'll try to attach them in the following post...

Oh, and I'll see Attack of the Clones tomorrow. |
You're lucky, I won't have time for it before next week...

I admit I haven't read all the books, but it seems that the Discworld is ALWAYS in immanent danger of dissolution from one cause or another. As Pratchet puts it in one of the novels, reality is a relative term, and the Discworld is so unreal that it is always close to becoming completely unreal and ceasing to exist at all. When it's not the whole world at risk, it is often cities or kingdoms - Ankh Morpork is invaded by a conquering army of dragon (how many dragons constitute an army? One!) the mighty Agatean empire falls to barbarians and the king of Djellybabi lost his kingdom (as in literally lost; it fell into a crack as I recall.) So I would make the objective of the scenario just SURVIVING until the end, and make sure each civilization is suitably threatened so as to make that a worthy accomplishment.

The palindromedary would be at home on the Disc I think..

Just to let the interested people (do they exist? ) know that the work is in progress:
- most of the units have been chosen (that is: I chose, maybe you won't like it... )
- the graphical plundering has begun
- most of the techs, improvements and Wonders have been defined
- the main "game mechanics" have been defined as well!
Of course, it's far from being finished, and it is my first scen, I might still need some time!
But I'm sure that with the help of the 2 glorious veterans, St-Leo and Case, the result can be interesting!
And just to let you know: the version being developed is intended for PBEM too, with 5 Civs that should be as interesting to play! It will take place on a relatively small map.
When this is finished (if that happens ), I'll probably work on a solo version for A-M with new units, events, etc...

Quick update:
- graphics done (rather found than done ) at 50%
- improvements, wonders, units: chosen, still need some names
- tech tree: done at 80%
- map: the implantation on the map still need to be done, which will take some time as I won't get the "Discworld Mapp" before the end of May. This is not too bad, as I have enough to do on other parts (graphics, text, etc.) before then...
- text descriptions: nothing done...
I might need some ideas on a few improvements and wonder names (I have 80% of them already, but a few others are still needed), as well as some help on graphics: someone willing to help??
If all goes well, playtest is scheduled for Summer...
