Yeah, I learned that lesson the hard way as well.

I also learned that the FW events editior has a horrible tendency of screwing your events up if you use it after editing the events.txt file with a text editor. This problem can be avoided if you delevent the save file after using text editors in this way.

Ok, work is going on nearly as planned!

I learned a few things in the process (not all of them quickly ), had a few bad surprises but nonetheless I hope it will turn alright (I might have been too ambitious for a first scen, but well...).

So the cities and units are in place, half of the events are tested and most of the wonder/improvements graphics have been found/implemented.

So I hope I can send the files for beta-testing (not all the descriptions will be written by then, but the mechanics should be in place) before I leave for 2 weeks off on the 18 of October!

But before that, I need some help on the graphics! What I need is:

1) icons for the following improvements
Carrier pigeon Network (Bank)
Click Pits (Cathedral)
Wizard Tower (University)
Semaphore shutters (Stock Exchange)
Clack Towers (Superhighway)
Fishing Harbor (Harbor)
(Sausage Tray Vendors) (Capitalization)

2) icons for the following Wonders
Schmalzberg Fat Deposit (King Richard's Crusade): a mine
Temple of Om (Michelangelo's Chapel): a temple with big bull's horns on it
Philosophers (Copernicus' Observatory)
Unseen University (Isaac Newton's College): I'll try something, but if you can help...
Tacticus Book (Sun Tzu's War Academy): I'll try something, but if you can help...
Leonardo da Quirm (Darwin's Voyage): a pic of Leonardo da Vinci would be perfect

3) units

On the second page of the graphics thread for "other", St LEo has posted some links to Heroes of Might and Magic units and you could use one of those. There's one that looks a lot like a mummy, although you might have to lighten the colour a little to make it obvious what it is.

0) Verify the units balance: done
1) Finish the development of the cities : done
2) pre-build the necessary units for all civs: done
3) Verify that the events file work as intended: should be finished tonight (hopefully)
4) play a game to see wether the mechanics work (alpha-test): Wednesday (I hope)
5) implement the improvements/wonder graphics: 90% done
6) finding the last units graphics: still need the units described in the previous post! Will do it in November
7) start a beta-test: see below
8) go on holiday: on Saturday, for 2 weeks
9) write the description files : mid November
10) implement the corrections to the problems that appeared in the beta-test: mid November
11) start a real playtest: end of November

So what I should have, before I leave next week-end, is a "playable" game, where the game "mechanics" could be tested !

But beware, the following things won't be implemented till then:
1) the last graphics (units and improvements)
2) the description for units, Wonders, etc...

SO I hope I'll be able to send the file next week-end to a selected few so that they can take a look at it and tell me what has to be changed!!

I had nothing to do so I just got this for ya, nothing special really
edited a unit by curtsibling and got the sand dunes from GNB4 by Winter.

About the witch, Curt unit would provide a fine hat, but you just can't imagine Granny Weatherwax wearing trousers (or magrats, for the specialists! )!! She always wear a black robe (not a nightdress, mind you, but a robe nonetheless).

And now about the progress:

I finished all the event testing tonight, and apart from a problem with an unit (see Technical questions thread), everything seems to work.

So on Wednesday I'll start my first game to see how it goes!

I loaded the Civ2 palette on my ToT mummy. With a quick touch up, he came out relatively unscathed.

Edit: just reread your post, Arthedain: I never said it wasn't good, just that it wasn't "appropriate" (in a non-Clintonesque way, of course!) because of Granny Weatherwax way of clothing, that's all!

A few graphics still need to be tweaked, but I already started my 1st game of Discworld!

Apart from a few errors (not too difficult to correct), I am not too disappointed ...

The game seems to work well and to proceed smoothly!

So hopefully it will be ready for betatesting soon

I'll need to change the trade goods list: any suggestions (apart from fat)?
