A Liberial Arts degree indicates that the holder has "learned how to learn". I hardly see how that is useless.

Yes, when people just list a topic and say discuss without posting their own opinion, it's obvious that they don't have the brains to form one themselves. No surprise in this case

They are far from worthless. When you're out job hunting, any degree will place you far ahead of those that don't have one.

Many many peoples first job has nothing to do with what the degree was. And even if it does, many people have said that it really didn't prepare them. A degree gets you in the door, experience will take over after that.

In the US, 2/3rd of all degree holders are in positions unrelated to their degree.

And you can't do a blanket "Arts Degrees". My degree is a BA, but it's hardly of the style of a "History of Art".

Maybe this is oldfashioned, but here we'd say you should have learned that when you got through highschool at the latest....

Dan: "In the US, 2/3rd of all degree holders are in positions unrelated to their degree."

Can you split that into a nr for university degrees (specialised in something) and college degrees (finally learned how to read, write and count) ?

Ok, sorry for the troll, but how does this 2/3rd share vary across degrees ?

Still looking for a job in the Bush admin, hmm ?

"And there's a difference between "University" and "College" degrees?"

I'm always hoplessly confused by your academic system (or lack of system). The rather broad college degrees (arts bachelor) vs law or med school, for example.

BA degrees are definitely not worthless.

I'm going for a BA in History, then later, go for a Phd in graduate school to work towards my goal of becoming an underpaid professor and teach undergrad students U.S. history.

Something that I believe I will enjoy working in.

Don't do it, Mr. Fun. I'm a history major too, but I'm going to stay as far from academia as I possibly can. Bad job prospects, crappy pay, and having to deal with frat boys on a daily basis is enough to make me run far, far away.

Typical, just because you don't understand it, you claim there is no system.

I'll try the easiest one for you.

B.A. bachelor of arts (includes foreign language classes)
B.S. Bachelor of science (substitute computer languages or extra math and science clases for foreign language classes)

Other than that, they're the same. SIMPLE

I have a B.S. which I always feel is very appropriate.

I know I am going to be underpaid, but I would rather do something that I believe I will enjoy.

Until I find a university to work for after graduate school, I can find some other full-time job while searching for the right university.

I am well aware of the attitude of students who just want to "get through" their required history course. But there are also students who are not sure what they want to do as freshmen, and then they end up becoming history majors.
