Support Apolyton, pre-order Civilization IV

But you have to remember that UN is a democratic body that makes descisions based on majority. Thatīs the rules of western democracy.

There are minority rights you know.

I guess that if you find it ok that a UN majority decides that Israel can't be in the Security Council, you can also find it ok when a majority in the Knesset decides that Israeli-Arabs can't reach high ranking positions in the IDF.

That's called discrimination, and you know it.

Siro:

What's the big deal with Israel being in the Security Council?
You have not more population that many other nations without permanent seat there. So, at most, you would only have a seat there for a temporary period.

In what way do you think that presence would serve the people's needs of security?

What about 30 years ago?

Another question:
Does anyone recall if 30 years ago the Palestinian people had any representative in the UN?

AFAIK, the PLO was only recently (a few years ago) recognized as the representative of the Palestinian people and prior to that, noone was.

I didnīt say I think it was good. I just said thatīs how it is. I really think Israel should have its turn in the Security Council just as anyone else.

It's the principal.

It shows that we aren't being treated equally in the UN.

30 Years ago - no.

Infact, 30 years ago, was the time when Palestinians started thinking of themselves as "Palestinians" rather than Syrians or just Arabs.

And that's when the Palestinian nationality was born. The ethnicity existed before though.

So don't hide behind democracy
