If I'm about to build something with my neighbors, I won't just come because it bring advantage to me. Sure I will ask for fairness, but the incentive is to build something, not just get as many benefit as I can.
It's called teamplay. If you don't feel enough inclined in the building process and are interested only in the reward, then leave (this one is not directed to UK, it's a general principle).
