A) Cities, where police forces are largest, and where crime is at it's highest, have a much larger population of African Americans then rural areas or suburbs, where crime is less apparent, and police forces are smaller and 'locally' administered. |
That has nothing to do with the fact that Blacks are dispropotionately convicted and more severely punished compared with white criminals for the same crimes. Whites committ slightly less crime in proportion to our percentage in the population, and Blacks slightly more. Yet, Blacks are more likely to be arrested, more likely to be charged, more likely to be found guilty, and more severely punished.
Just consider the drug trade. Most of us know where we can get drugs. Many of us buy drugs. Studies show that whites are actually more likely to use drugs, yet Blacks make up the majority of drug convictions. The laws are applied unequally.
quote: B) This does not negate the rights for an organization to exist that looks out for whites, or calls itself a name that would imply it, so long as there are organizations that exist to look out for blacks. |
There are two very powerful organizations that look out for the interests of white people. One is called the Republican Party. The other is called the Democratic Party. There are many, many organizations that look out for the interests of white people. However, since white people are in charge, there isn't really anything for them to complain about at the moment, unless one believes that the Jews of Hollywood and New York are stealing your money to keep black criminals and pregnant teens on the dole.
quote: I'm merely discussing principles...if 'black groups' can exist without being automatically labeled racist, then 'white groups' should be able to exist in the same way. |
No one is saying that that white groups don't or shouldn't have the same rights as Black groups. What people have been saying is that whites have absolutely no need for such organizations, and that when so organizations do exist, they have been created for the purposes of enforcing white supremacy (as well as anti-Semitism and anti-Catholocism, etc.).
I'm not being oppressed as a white person. There is no need for an organization to fight for my rights as a white person. When I'm driving alone, I don't have to worry about being racially profiled. Despite the claims of anti-AA nutjobs, I don't have to worry about not getting a job because of my race or gender. I don't have to worry that my right to vote isn't going to be taken away. I don't get followed in stores. People don't cross to the other side of the street when I'm walking by. Very, very few people tell me that I'm useless because I'm white, and when it does happen (and it has), it's so out of the ordinary that I laugh. It's not like that person had any power over me whatsoever.

The dept of justice did a survey of 100,000 people who were victims of violent crime. The percentage of blacks who were perpetrators matched the percentage of blacks arrested very closely, so this tells us that if there is any racial profiling going on, its not significant.

Che - while nearly in agreement, I still feel that a 'white' group with goals of getting AA off the books is not automatically racist simply because of that. Again, I'm merely discussing principles here, not actuality. The 'black organizations' that I am referring too - I am wondering if they play a major role in segregating society into colors when these segregations might not otherwise exist. Organizations are where many bonds and friendships are made, wouldn't you agree? So if a group mainly 'for blacks' exists, and is a powerful entity, it may unknowingly serve the purpose of segregating society.
Hey, if drug charges are a problem for African Americans, lets get them off the books. You'd get blacks AND white to participate in THAT one More importantly, you won't have to label it a 'black' organization, but it could certainly raise the point of how unequal arrests are made.
