Well, it was close to the end. After another 3 hours of playing today, Paul conceded at 1180ad. The power graph was virtually tied, but Paul was WAY ahead in production. I was up one or two of modern age tech in the end which proved to be the deciding factor.
The first combat we had was when I invaded the island with the triple good city on it and took out his city. I brought a settler along and terraformed out all the goods for that triple city. This was the maneuver that prompted Paul to call me a "sneaky *****". I then terraformed a couple of additional goods on the next island over. I have to admit that Dr. Doom gave me the idea for this type of terraform attack... many thanks!
Paul was next to attack as I mentioned in a previous post. He took out (or caused me to rip up) 6 cities, 1 of which had a factory in it and 1 had a mill. He stole mass production using his spys which really kept him in the game. Fortunately for me, he failed on his next attempt to get a tech and also when he took my cities. Otherwise, the game would have been MUCH closer.
In the end, a lightning strike with 7 paratroopers took out 6 of Pauls cities including several key trade cities. It also all but eliminated the chance of Paul reaching my land with any kind of counter attack for many turns to come. An additional wave of paratroops would have potentially hit another few key cities, but Paul decided it was enough.

Hey, how is the tournament going? I finally got the chance to spend some time on the net. Unfortunately, we do not have net access in our rooms so I can't even play ctp online  Basic was as expected, not much fun, though the phisical part was easy, it was folding clothes, cleaning just about everything, shining boots, and the teamwork that made it hell. I am in techschool now so it is great, just can't get on the net on a regular basis. I think my ctp playing days are over. Maybe not, I may come back online in mid-2003 and find those bastard servers still operational and a few discrepit armchair generals still on the front-lines......  Have fun.

Look you wise#$@%&^ young whipper snapper, when i was your age..I..I.. I well..I 4-get..but anyway..I will be here for you to whoop on, if I remeber correctly..your turn length was what made me an old decrepit armchair general!

. Its kinda annoying when you have 3 spies and no money to do anything lolololol. But my poor sol and cavalry were eventually no match for his fighters, i also got lost on where i was gonna land 
The game was quite slow, but it needed to be too look after all the many things we needed to. I think i was considerably slower most of the time. All and all a great game so far.
