[SIZE=1] I think I've heard of Turtledove... what're his books about again?

Alternate reality settings for the Civil War and WWI. In the first book, the South wins the war of secession against the north very quickly and establishes its own nation. France and England recognize the Confederacy and engender the fierce hatred of the North as a result. The book jumps ahead to another war between the Confederacy and the North in the 1880's. The south whups the north again, but German observers in the lines of the North learn alot of interesting lessons.

The second book concerns the start of WWI. It starts for the same reasons, but by this time, the North is allied with Germany due to its hatred of France and England and the South is allied with France and England. The dominate parties in the US are Democrats and Socialists (what a choice).

The third and fourth books book details WWI trench fighting in North America as the North (USA) fights the Confederacy and Canada.

The fifth and sixth books deal with the aftermath of WWI wherein France and England are on the losing side. Nuff said there, I think.

Very interesting, well written and even plausible. Makes ya grateful for the actual outcome of the Civil War.

You're right. Bad things would have happened if the South had won.
For some reason though, I always support the underdog with superior tactics and equipment. The Confederacy, Germany in WWII (stupid Hitler declaring war on everyone... bah), etc.

I'll have to look into those books next time I run by the library.

I found a bug with your scenario unfortunatly. When I finished Advanced Rifling, I got an error in pediaicons.txt, and then the game closed.

Hmmmm. I'll look into that, thanks.

Akaoz and others, I'm currently working on a .SAV file with many of the good 'scenario' features already in it. I should be done with it sometime tomorrow and have a different link for it in my thread at CFC.

Ah, Turtledove. Got the 1st of his alternate ww2 series as a present and though I read most of it, I had no intention of buying another one.

Lizard aliens taking over the world and fighting axis/allies with lasers and nukes got just too weird.

Seems he has alot of books. Could get some good scenario ideas, after all, that's what civ scenario's are all about-changing history

Got spare money?

the Great War series contains no aliens, time travelling Afrikaners, or lasers. I've read all of them and I'd recomend them to any history buff.

Not to be obnoxious, but the "Great War" refers to WW1, not 2. I've never read any of the books, so I really don't have anything else relevant to say. Trip, just get a 1.05 version out so I can research tech without crashing!

Great scenario Trip... now we can finnaly play the best part of civ (I spend much more time playing and tweaking scenarios in civ2 than playing random)
I hope that in PTW we'll have at least a higher fraction of the creating options that we did back in civ2

By the way, am I doing something wrong or there's no way to build railroad/ironclads?

You need to research a tech before you can use ironclads. Unfortunately though, researching techs makes the game die, so I'm working on fixing that.
I'm also working on the '.SAV' scenario still, so hold your horses everyone. I just got a new laptop today and have spent 7 hours configuring it.

Great scenario. Was a bit confused at first, as I thought it was about the first american civil war, the one with England, till I started playing (I have a bad habit of downloading files from here without reading about them first)

Anyway, I'm fairly motivated know to start a Cold War scenario with the new editor, but may wait until PTW comes out. I'm too lazy to do the same scenario twice for the various game versions

Anyway, aside from tech problems which you know about, There really ought to be a railroad going into the Richmond/Manassas area. (Manassas was a railroad junction from Richmond to Washington, that's why the north tried to take it right away. You know, Bull Run, or "the battle of Manassas Junction")

Avatar Enlargement: We've got the solution

The main problem with the railroads is how they're implimented in Civ 3. After all, during the real Civil War, troops couldn't teleport to the front with trains.

I would add a railroad going from Richmond to Washington through Manassas, except I fear that this may be too easily exploited by the human player because of infinite movement... I don't think it's very realistic for a large army to teleport from Raleigh North Carolina all the way to Washington. If Firaxis makes the distance you can move with RRs editable in PtW, then I'll probably change it then, but I don't see much good coming from it. RRs in this scenario are meant to represent only large and important lines, i.e. from Washington to Balitimore, and also to emphasize the North's superiority in that area. If I put railroads everywhere they were realistically, then the North would have them everywhere, while the South would have them in quite a few places too, which doesn't make for very good gameplay. I'm sure you can see my point.
