Tired of ads?

That shouldn't be happening.

It starts of showing them all starving, but then the scenario loads properly and they're all growing... that's probably the same problem that it's having with the cash flow. I'm not sure what the problem is. It's like the scenario isn't loading right.

Hmmmm. That leads me to believe the .ZIP didn't extract correctly. Try 'installing' the scenario again, then tell me if it happens again. If it does, I want you to go into the Civ 3\Art\Units\Confederate Rifleman and open up the Confederate Rifleman.INI file and post what's in it.

Trip, did you make any changes in the new versions that could of caused these crashes, assuming they have v 1.29. Because with the earlier version, once i got winzip, i extracted and loaded up the game with ease. And since my fathers computer is pretty old, and runs windows 98, people with newer machines I would think should have less difficulty. The scenarios great btw! Some may not like the excessively long turns, due to the massive number of units, but i feel its adds a whole new strategic element to the game. Ive never played with that many before. I would also like to mention the map and its detail is great. And so far, the units and their stats seem to be well balanced. As I continue I'll update my opinions.

Kman

So far nearly everyone has been able to play fine, so I think it may just be them (otherwise why can everyone else play it fine?).

I have an older machine and Windows 98 SE, so that shouldn't be a problem either.

As far as the wide scope of the scenario, it's necassary due to the size of the map and the conflict overall.

Hope everyone enjoys it.

IMO, I agree completely. But others, who don't like to micromanage so much like I do, may not agree. But screw them, i think its great. They could always edit the scenario to their preference, i guess, since its not copy writed...

You need 1.29f to play the scenario.

Other than that, I'm not sure what the problem is. Everyone else seems to be playing it fine. What did you unzip it with? If WinZip what version?

It has to be WinZip or else the files won't go into the correct location. That's your problem.

Great! Glad to hear the thing works fine now.

Unfortunately the scope of the scenario makes it hard to set up on the first turn. Trust me, I know how hard it is to spend a half hour changing city production and fortifying units, I've had to playtest the thing a dozen times.

The one thing I don't really like about this scenario, and maybe it was addressed in your new version, I'm downloading it now, but the Union doesn't have that big of an advantage, because most of their cities have 1 shield 1 commerce production due to corruption. Major cities like Chicago can't produce anything even with a courthouse and police station, just due to the massive amount of cities you have, and the distance from the capital. I'm getting 1532 gold from cities, -589 from corruption, and -700 from matenance, and then more for units. But like I said, I love the scenario, and we'll see what 1.04 does for it

Edit - I also noticed in your readme that it says you changed union trait from expansionist to commercial, but its still expansionist for me, is that a bug? And there was no steam power tech or coal on the map.

Edit 2 - You can also use Winrar to extract it correctly.

You'll be pleasantly surprised I think. 1.04 addresses the huge corruption and waste hit, so that will probably solve the problem.

Not sure if these points have been raised before in other posts. The only hope that the South really had for victory was to dispirit the North early in the war and propel the northern Democrats to power. Or. Get international recognition from France and/or England. It would be interesting to see these factors brought into the game. Perhaps the Northern Democrat Party effect could be represented by a culture bonus for the south for fulfilling certain conditions. Also, it is unlikely in the extreme that the south ever dreamed of advancing as far as New York or Boston. They could live off the land, yes, but they could not hold enemy territory. Their invasions of the north were meant to intimidate and panic the north. Perhaps give the south *huge* culture victory points for occupying any northern territory. However, once the north gets the emancipation declaration in play, then the cultural and diplomatic strategies disappear for the south.

How about a alternate history scenario based on Harry Turtledove's books.

Unfortunately, there's no good ways to impliment those ideas... I can't do many more new things with the editor than place cities and units.

I think I've heard of Turtledove... what're his books about again?

Do you have to d/l 1.04 first, then 1.29 for it to work properly, or does it work OK with just 1.29?

This was being actively discussed on another thread on this forum, I dont recall which one though.

Trip, the guy does ulternate history stuff. In one of his books, south Africa goes back in time and gives the cofederates AK-47s, so as to keep slavery in America. I heard it was real good. I haven't read it though, but a friend of mine practically wants to have Turtledove's children.

Heh, by that token, Tom Clancy can write a book where Jack Ryan and John Clark use a time machine to go back in time and crush Mother Russia. Actually, I bet that would be a huge bestseller. Even though he'd be kind of selling out his "realism" bit.
