Ok, you've probably seen the commercials on TV, maybe. But have ever really thought about switching from a PC to a Mac? I have. I've looked at this site as well as others (PC Magazine, CNET, ZDnet) and I have to say that I am very compelled to switch. But I'd like to see what other Macintosh users have to say before I buy. Here are my questions about Macintosh computers:
What are the advantages and disadvantages of using a Macintosh instead of a PC?
In what ways are Macintosh's and PC's compatible with each other?
Is there good software for the Macintosh, despite their being only about 3,000 titles for Mac OS compared to Windows' 30,000 titles?
Do Macintosh's work better with Internet, about the same, or not as good as a PC?
How do Macintosh's perform in comparison to PC's?
How well do games run on Macintosh's compared to PC's?
How reliable and secure are Macintosh computers compared to a PC's?
Are Macintosh computers highly expandable and easy to upgrade?
Is owning a Macintosh worth the the steep price?
I may have more questions later.
Wait's for Asher's response. . .

Just for the record folks, I rarely play games on my computer; if I do play games, it's usually at a friends house on a console. But I do like to surf the Internet and listen to music. I would also like to be able to watch DVD movies, burn CD's, and burn DVD's. I would like something that has plenty of firewire and usb ports. And yes, I do work with graphics occasionally. I would like to have something that's portable, but it doesn't have to be "ultra-portable" (I don't plan on using my computer in the car, on a plane, a boat, a train, or whatever. I just want to be able to take it with me wherever I go and plug it into an outlet when I want to use it).
Despite the high price (I'm willing to shell out some extra bucks anyway, even on a PC), the new iMacs seem to fit my demands. |

Look, it's a personal thing.
From all logical standpoints the PC is the best option.
But if you prefer a flashier, cuter interface and don't mind paying more for inferior hardware, don't mind having a minimal selection of games (which come out long after the PC versions, if at all), then the Mac is for you. |

The G4 is obsolete. The only reason it's still around is because the successor is an even bigger screwup for Motorola and they can't get it to work right.
The RAM is obsolete. PCs switched to high-speed DDR 266/333 SDRAM and RDRAM 1-2 years ago, the Mac is still chugging along on PC133 SDRAM.
The system bus is obsolete. PCs switched to a 266MHz system bus (Athlon) years ago, and the Pentium 4s have a 533MHz system bus -- Apple has a 133MHz system bus.
The graphics chips are identical to the PC versions, except Apple charges a significant markup on them in their stores.
"Multimedia" is better on Macs in very few areas, mostly in the very professional areas -- and this is due to the fact that that's where the software is, not hardware.
There's zero advantage of the Mac hardware over PC hardware for consumers -- a big disadvantage actually. |

Again, this is bullshit.
Why would the software on the Mac let you do more? Does that make any sense to you?
There may be the odd obscure program that's not available on the PC, but there are far more programs on the PC that aren't available on Mac. And that's not a simple "quantity" argument, it's the idea that these programs do a whole bunch of different things and you can't get them all on the Mac. |

Call me stupid, but why are you going to spend a lot of money on a system that isn't any more powerful than your current system, and offers less software for it? |
All this negative talk about Macs makes me wonder why you'd even recommend it.

for the power over my system which I want PCs are much better
Macs are only better if you want no control (because you cannot be trusted with any)
to get control over a Mac, you need Linux level know how
