Well that's part of it too - its probably the best guide to what will grow well in my opinion.

We have a bush down here with blue brush style flowers which does very well for some reason but I don't see much anywhere else. Roses thrive but azaleas and camelias and the like are a complete waste to time unless you find a very favourable sheltered spot with the right soil for them. Its a damn claypan down here.

Please don't use lawn clippings as mulch, they contain grass seeds and you end up with lawn in the garden beds, place the lawn clippings in the compost and when the compost is ready put that on your garden, better still buy a mulching mower and feed your lawn while you mow.

All the ones set up properly with enouph air getting to the centre.

I prefer worm farms to compost heaps, much cleaner and the worm castings are great for the garden.

Tell them , next time, to use a couple of lengths of drainage pipe through the heap, it lets the air into the guts and that helps stop the smell, it also helps it break down faster as well as allow worms in there as they don't get cooked.

I'm starting to enjoy this, better go pay some bills.
