WhiteElephant, I know those things exist now, the big problem is that they aren't working as they should. And the reason for that is the people in government that are supposed to be enforcing the rules aren't because they're in the pockets of the very same corporations. Bush, Cheney, Daschle, Lieberman; they've all got skeletons in their closet, and they're all puppets; and corporate America is holding the strings.

I am a proud capitalist hardliner and am proud of the system the US has. It may not be perfect but it sure does the job well. It needs reforms as I think Bush is doing right now. Pushing through reforms... like tougher restrictions and tougher punishments.

They are enforcing the rules just transparently in order not to piss off the corporate America with big crusades against capitalism as you propose sava.

Well I can agree that there are crooked politicans, and crooked businessmen, but you're turning this into a "Red Scare". Obviously it's not everyone, everywhere, or we would have never heard about Enron, WorldCom, etc.

If you believe that the media sensationalizes stories, and you'd be foolish not to, then you have to understand that these stories are also sensationalized as well.

I've known that corporate America was largely greedy and immoral before all of this stuff. You learn a lot when you grow up in a family where everyone works for a corporation. My opinions are based upon my experience, and the work experience of my parents, aunts, uncles, cousins, etc. Although I often stay tuned, I don't listen to the media with the exception of NPR at times.

The accounting crimes commited with Enron and Worldcom aren't widespread, but the culture of corporate America is one of greed. Whether or not they play by the rules or not (BTW I'd say maybe 25% of corporate America engages in illegal activity) the vast majority only cares about that dollar bill, and will step on or crush anyone in their way.

Greed is basically part of a capitalism but it must be watched and it is...

I say around 3% of corporate America engages in illegal activity.

Sava, that is called capitalism, business can get tough but that is the way it is. It would be uncompetitive and stupid to even think about adopting a different model.

Intersting report on CNN today describing the US governemt book keeping. They describe it as exactly the same as what is now being described as corrupt. I think too the numbers are in the 25-30% range Sava because it seems to be the accepted norm. Stay tuned I think more corps are going to toss the big one.

These were the results on a poll: around 75% of those polled thought OTHER corporations were engaged in some kind of illegal activity, but 63% of those same people said that they didn't think their OWN company was doing anything illegal, and trusted their employers.

Polls mean diddly squat. They are just taken on some inadequate sample and CNN is especially nortorious about that.

25%-30% range is completely damn outrageous and unrealistic.

You missed my point...

I really don't think people are all that worried about corporate America, they just want to sound knowledgeable when the pollsters call them. "Oh, yes, I am deeply concerned with the corporations...Oh, yes, of course...what? MY company? Of course not...listen, can we hurry this up, my dinner's waiting."

In case you haven't noticed, the entire culture of America is going downhill, and IMO, Democrats are making this out to be worse than it is. The Democrats have been out to get big business, in the name of the little people of course, and the fact that they can cause Bush to lose fame and lose his post 9/11 popularity is just an added bonus.

Could you share some of those experiences? I'm sure they were what caused you to want millions of people to lose money in the stock market, to bring the billionaires and millionaires down while at the same time making sure the government took care of everyone's needs and wants. They must have been pretty bad experiences.

Hear about Adelphia today? Adelphia Execs Arrested

And what about the stock market? In case the link above doesn't work, you can always check out Wall Street Works Wonders

Well, looks like millions of Americans won't be losing all their money today. You'll have to find something else to entertain you...

You know what? Even if the market does drop tomorrow, this was worth it. And besides, ups and downs are what make the stock market what it is.
