Why don't the Russians just make Kolingrad a special free trade zone? I'm sure they could sign a treaty with the EU and the Russian economy would benifit by turning Kolingrad into their modern "window" into the west.

After WW2 Stalin forcably removed all the Germans (and a fair number of the Poles) and replaced them with new ethnic Russian settlers. I imagine the Russians will want to stay with Russia.

Their so-called "regular" formations were defeated within a couple of months since second war started. A first step would be the integration of Poland in the European Union. Although I admit, that nationalists like Heresson are a big obstacle. May be we should give Poland a few more years to develop and educate their citizens, especially the young ones. In the 30s, Germany was full of people thinking alike, and we all know how it ended. Today most Germans, except of a small bunch of flag-waving morons, got over the loss of Silesia, Pommerania and Eastern Prussia and also don't care about Alsace and Lorraine anymore. In a couple of years all this will be European, and national differences will matter less with the time. Poland would be wise to prepare its citizens to be Europeans instead of flag waving nationalists. "Europe" means more than receiving billions of Euros for subsidies and infrastructure help and flooding the continent with cheap potatoes.

I think Sir Ralph's last comment and summary is good. The EU isn't just a matter of getting financial support like many of the Poles (especially the peasants) think. Bollocks. Finland is one of the countries who's trying to get rid of subsidies, unlike the Poles who whine for more, even if they 1. aren't yet members 2. haven't yet received a single €. Sir Ralph also mentioned the former German territories of Silesia, etc. I could compare the same situation to the Karelia issue. Well, we do have the fanatic Finn Pekka here, but in general it's a diminishing number of people (I would count them in hundreds or maybe up to a thousand) and they're mostly elder people. So I'm pro European as the rest and also underline that e.g. Heresson should drop the case of Kaliningrad; it's a waste of time and you won't get more €€€ from the EU because of that.
