	How should we call our currency ? Full PM-box? Change here!

Our great philosophers toyed for several centuries with the idea of currency, before it became a reality (sold by the French). An amazing discovery if you ask me : we trade useful goods for something completely useless (round pieces of metal), except that they''l be used to trade for other useful goods.
Now, every citizen of Apolytonia has those metal pieces in his pockets, and we didn't give a name to our currency yet.

This thread is intended to find good ideas on how to name our currency.

I modestly suggest we call it the Spiffor
More seriously, and to avoid naming yet again another thing after bananas, I think we could call it the Lyton. It sounds like a cool currency name don't you think ?

(moreover, bananas were our primitive "currency" before we discover it)

We're continuing to use the Banana as our currency. Gold should just be used for international trade.

Anyway, 'Lyton' is a good name. We could have subdivisions: 100 Apo in a Lyton.

Hell no we've been using the banana for years. I'm going to start a "referendum" party which demands a poll over whether to scrap the banana. I will also be making a most sinister and biased video showing spiffor to be part of a big conspiracy and I will be making the most annoying leafleting campaign ever.

(For anyone not in the UK I'm not being serious.)

Aw, c'mon Epi, you know "Spiffor" is a much greater name than "Epistax", and deserves to go to our most valuable coins

OTOH, BigFurryMonster's idea is very good : 100 Apo in a Lyton (what if we are original, and make it 1000 Apo in a Lyton ? or 10 Apo in a Lyton ?)
Now, we just need a singular for the Apo, and maybe a plural for the Lyton.
"Lytons" sound pretty lame. What do you think of the "Lytis". Or maybe we just don't give plural to the money (like Germans do) : 1 Apo, 2 Apo ; 1 Lyton, 2 Lyton.

We must stop using the Banana as our currency! With the greatly increasing number of banana plantations, we will suffer from extreme inflation!

.01 = Epi or Spiff
.10 = Apo
1.00 = Lyton
10 = 10 Lyton (did you see that coming?)
1000 = Millyton

Using 'cent' for anything is kind of cliche for currency, so I decided to go with the 'mille' prefix for thousand, and give 1000 units of currency their own name. The smallest unit also needs a name, as well, so one of the two (or perhaps a combination, such as Epispiff or Spiffpi). This is fun.

Why can't we compromise and call our currency the "Banana Dollar" (bD)? Then we have the benefit or currency and comfort of our old bananas.

We could call the smallest coin a "poly" (p). 100 polies to a Banana Dollar. We could also make larger coins like "a half Banana".

OK, it seems there is a wide agreement on the Apo and the Lyton. Now, we should decide what metal we use.
We have copper/bronze, iron, and some gold just outside our borders (near Del Monte). We don't have enogh to make gold pieces common, but some gold pieces can be used by the wealthiest.

BTW, I'm completely opposed to anything that brings a currency from RL in our game. "Banana Dollar" seems an horrible idea to me, as much as "Banana Euro" or "Banana Pound".

Exactly why I'm against any "Mil" terms. Perhaps Copper, Bronze, and Iron Bananas and then Paper Bananas?

Seriously though, we do need to think of a name for our Currency. I like the idea of Lyton, and Apo(s), but surely there must be other fine names. What is the word for banana in french anyone? Or maybe latin or greek perhaps?

We're the Egyptians so we should look into Arabic (or ancient Egyptian if anyone is familiar with the language)...
But then again maybe we shouldn't name our currency Mawza (Arabic word for Banana IIRC).

This "currency" concept is actually kind of handy, upon someone's suggestion I decided to use these worthless papyrus sheets to represent one everyday banana. Now you exchange your bananas for papyrus and when you need more bananas just exchange these "marques" for however many bananas you need. This should be a useful alternative until an official currency is approved.

No more hauling banana around that rot before you use them! Not to mention the-oh-so annoying bug swarms......

There is no common word for Banana in Latin, since the banana tree only spread to Africa (from Malaysia) after the Roman period. However, the Latin scientific (biologic) name is 'Musa'.

We can't allow this if we don't want our rivals to outrun us in the economic race !
