Thus, the norm seems to be liberal.
However for Europeans it is VERY liberal, mostly, with some obvious exceptions.

On the test to which Fez refers, I am a libertarian. However, the way I feel about things, I think that GWB is too far left. I guess that puts me to the right of fascists.

I admire the Roman Empire. I think we, like them, should aggressively impose Western civilization on the uncivilized. This position is wholly un-PC. The PC world elevates Stone Age civilization to be "just another, equal and valid" way of life. I disagree - strongly.

Rather I find it wholly appalling the recent Islamic sentence that a Nigerian woman be stoned to death for having sex outside of marriage. As soon as her baby is weaned, the Moslem clerics will pick up their stones and...

Earlier this year, an Islamic court ordered a girl in Pakistan to be gang raped as punishment for her brother walking hand in hand with a woman of an upper caste.

This barbarism is wrong. To the extent that we have to power to do so, we must put a stop to it.

i had the same problem with this test as in most other political tests:

as in, i think sex before marriage is a sin (although i've done it), that although abortion is evil one can't legislate against it, that although globalization is to be embraced corporations have a social responsibility to the people, marriage is a sacred bond that should not be allowed to be broken so easily while not being limited only to heterosexual couples, etc.

so it ends up that i tend to be middle of the road. but not really.

Actually my family has been homeless, so yeah, I'd count that as extreme poverty

Lazy and foolish? So all poor people are lazy? My father walked out on us, then my mother lost her job just as our houses value plummeted. After the house had sold we barely had anough to live in one bedroom in a bed and breakfast. As much as I hate my mother now, she worked really hard for us and tried to do her best at the time, so think before you refer to us as lazy and foolish

Helping the poor and needy doesn't make you a communist.

Then fine you aren't. But you must not expect that you can be served by the government or punish the private sector for what has happened to you. Instead you must enter the jungle and try, that way you will end up in a good paying job.

I agree... because my family and I help them myself... infact in Ecuador my dad and I helped a bunch of poor Indians get their cultural goods to the US so they can make money. Now many of them are really well off.

But Spain was Fascist in the 70s - that's hardly the left. I'm not a communist anyway - I like capitalism, I just believe it should be controlled much more effectively to keep it a market economy and not a monopoly and there should be welfare systems in place for those who fall through the net.

I think too much control could lead to disaster but hey we all got our opinions. And Spain being fascist in the 70s doesn't change the fact that my family was peasants. Franco set the stage for a economic miracle that took place over thirty years (with a few recessions between today and then).

But don't propose punishing the private sector, or it will end up like the private sector in Argentina. Battered because of the punishment it received from the country. The facts are their, punishing and destroying the private sector will push unemployment way up.
