To find the Northwest Passage

Well, I'll add one for the Albertans, called The Idiot
I often take these nightshift walks
when the foreman's not around.
I turn my back on the coolant stacks
and make for open ground.
Far out beyond the tankfarm fence
where the gas flare makes no sound.
I forget the stink and I always think
back to that eastern town.
I remember back six years ago
this western life I chose.
When everyday the news would say
some factory's going to close.
Well I could have stayed to take the dole
but I'm not one of those.
I take nothing free and that makes me
an idiot I suppose.
So I bid farewell to the eastern town
I nevermore will see.
But work I must, so I eat this dust and breathe refinery.
Oh, I miss the green and the woods and streams
and I don't like cowboy clothes,
But I like being free and that makes me
an idiot I suppose.
So come all ye fine young fellers
who've been beaten to the ground.
This western life's no paradise
but it's better than lying down.
Oh, the streets aren't clean and there's nothing green and the hills are dirty brown;
But the government dole will rot your soul
back there in your hometown.
So bid farewell to the eastern town
you nevermore will see.
There's self-respect and a steady cheque in this refinery.
You will miss the green and the woods and streams
and the dust will fill your nose;
But you'll be free and just like me an idiot I suppose.

This is for the young ones who have yet to form thier own thought.
The Art of Rebellion (1992)
Gota Kill Captain Stupid
Ah damn, we got a lot of stupid people
Doing a lot of stupid things
Thinking a lot of stpuid thoughts
And if you want to see one
Just look in the mirror
Gotta kill Captain Stupid, can't you see him
Today we start the new way, we're Suicidal
Gotta kill the old way, we'll make it better
Won't you join our mission, don't be stupid
Got to kill Captain Stupid
Got to kill Captain Stupid
Brothers killing brothers, what up with that?
Can't you see they're laughing, that ain't funny
Babies making babies, that ain't love
You just got screwed over, get some respect
CHORUS
Got to kill Captain Stupid
Got to kill Captain Stupid
And I don't understand why
People be bringin' Captain Stupid in their lives
Treating him like a superhero
Glorifying him when he ain't nothing but a superpunk
And you see, you're the one who's gonna have to stop him
'Cause you7re the one that started him
Oh, what's that?
So now you say life sucks
Well, ninety-nine percent of it's
What you make of it...
So if your life sucks, you suck
What's that crap you're smoking, playing the fool
Waste your life for nothing, when you're something
What the hell you thinking, mind pollution
Got to get back control, it's your life fool
CHORUS
What's that now?
Ah, so you're scared to do something about it
Well, you better be scared not to do something about it
'Cause if you don't kill Captain Stupid
Captain Stupid gonna kill you
Got to kill Captain Stupid-fool

OH!
We Can Work It Out
Try to see it my way,
Do I have to keep on talking till I can't go on?
While you see it your way,
Run the risk of knowing that our love may soon be gone.
We can work it out,
We can work it out.
Think of what you're saying.
You can get it wrong and still you think that it's alright.
Think of what I'm saying,
We can work it out and get it straight, or say good night.
We can work it out,
We can work it out.
Life is very short, and there's no time
For fussing and fighting, my friend.
I have always thought that it's a crime,
So I will ask you once again.
Try to see it my way,
Only time will tell if I am right or I am wrong.
While you see it your way
There's a chance that we may fall apart before too long.
We can work it out,
We can work it out.

Purple haze all in my brain
Lately things just don't seem the same
Actin' funny, but I don't know why
'Scuse me while I kiss the sky
Purple Haze all around
Don't know if I'm comin' up or down
Am I happy or in misery?
What ever it is, that girl put a spell on me
Help me
Help me
Oh, no, no
Hammerin',
Talkin' 'bout heart 'n'...s-soul
I'm talkin' about hard stuff
If everbodys still around, fluff and ease, if
So far out my mind
Somethings happening, somethings happening
Ooo, ahh
Ooo, ahh,
Ooo, ahh
Ooo, ahh, yeah!
Purple haze all in my eyes, uhh
Don't know if its day or night
You got me blowin', blowin' my mind
Is it tomorrow, or just the end of time?
Ooo
Help me
Ahh, yea-yeah, purple haze, yeah
Oh, no, oh
Oh, help me
Purple haze, Tell me, baby, tell me
I can't go on like this
Purple haze
You're makin' me blow my mind...mama
Purple haze, no, nooo
Purple haze, no, its painful, baby

Join the Army
I got a story to tell, now listen up real well
Pay attention this way to what I got to say
Took it to the street, rap to the people we meet
Now were rocking out hard, to the Suicidal beat
Tried to deny our right, so we put up a fight
Just doing our thang, they tried to call it a gang
Saw the way we look, that's all that it took
That's all she wrote, they had their scapegoat
Dressed doen, homeboyz, minority - Join the Army
We're the few, we're the proud, we like to jam it loud
The music we play, won't have it any other way
We're armed to the bone with our music and our tone
Recruiting on the street, with the sound of our beat
Growing larger every day, and everytime we play
Don't need no college plan, we're just a hard-rocking band
We like our music to please, we ain't gonna appease
No pressure's to much, to make us change our touch
Hardcore, Metal, the New Wave
We're not a gang - Join the Army
Don't be no fool, don't let your prejudice rule
Don't judge by your fear, judge us by your ear
Can't believe every word, or every story that you've heard
Just play the song, I know you'll start to rock along
Well I don't care, 'bout the clothes you wear
It's the size of your heart, not the length of your hair
Don't make no difference to me, the color that you be
Black, white or brown, it's all the same to me
Well if you still don't believe, you best get up and leave
Do what you must do, but this ain't the place for you
You got no right, but if you start a fight
We'll be rockin your head, but with our fists instead
I'll fight it with the band, right down till the end
Ask anyone I've met, this ain't no idle threat
Don't flap no fit, and it won't come to this
Bust as for me, I'm down with the Army
New York, London, Venice
Why join a gang?
Join the Army
Suicidal Rock - Join the Army

Is anyone reading all of these lyrics?
I say we at least limit them to Canadian singers/bands and for Canadians (e.g. not Bush).

Imagine
Imagine there's no heaven,
It's easy if you try,
No hell below us,
Above us only sky,
Imagine all the people
living for today...
Imagine there's no countries,
It isnt hard to do,
Nothing to kill or die for,
No religion too,
Imagine all the people
living life in peace...
Imagine no possesions,
I wonder if you can,
No need for greed or hunger,
A brotherhood of man,
Imagine all the people
Sharing all the world...
You may say Im a dreamer,
but Im not the only one,
I hope some day you'll join us,
And the world will live as one.
And with that Good night, peace to all
We hit 500 yet?

Okay, here's a question.
My theory is that Canadians elected, and re-elected Chretien because they wanted a non-active government after all of the turmoil of the 80s. By that I mean, a government that made no major changes, compared to the NEP, GST, Meech Lake, NAFTA, etc.
Chretien was an ideal leader for this type of government because he cares more about staying in power than achieving any policy goals.
The question then is whether there are any signs that Canadians want major changes. Any indication at the provincial level that people are voting for change?

Hold Your Ground
-James Keelaghan
Somewhere inside my soul there is an echo of my youth,
Some pithy little saying that contains a grain of truth,
If patience is a virtue, persistence is its mark.
It's better light a candle than stand and curse the dark,
But if we stand together we might turn this world around –
Hold your ground.
In the corridors of power where our voice is seldom heard
The "status quo" is what they want, they get it with a word;
For us it takes a thousand voices, a million angry shouts
To notify the ship of state to bring its course about.
But if we pull together we might turn this ship around –
Hold your ground.
Oh, this world is changing,
Spinning out through space and time.
Oh, it's rearranging
All the things we thought were yours and mine.
You've got to hold your ground,
Hold your ground,
Hold your ground,
Hold your ground.
Sometimes it seems the motion is strictly retrograde,
There are so many reverses to advances that you've made.
The things you thought were changing have shuddered to a halt;
The only way is forward when your back's against the wall.
But if we stand together we might turn this world around –
Hold your ground.
It isn't for the faint of heart to bet when odds are long,
And neither is it easy to be right in face of wrong;
You must proceed from strength to strength although the road is rough,
And sometimes human courage just isn't quite enough.
But if we we stand together we might turn this world around –
Hold your ground,
Hold your ground,
Hold your ground,
Hold your ground.
Oh, this world is changing!
