It's almost laughable to suggest that Zylka would do such a thing. The guy wouldn't even break the 3 thread rule. He's a perfect example of obedience.

If he were to do such a banner I might vote for him in the hall of fame, but alas he didn't so I'll vote for whoever did do it.

I haven't voiced myself yet as I have been away, but this is more than a parody now. "The Chaplin Poly Banner Farce."
First of all the Canadians are acting like the formula would be Chaplin = Hitler. Apparently only me, aaglo, KX and Markos seem to understand the clue with The Dictator and Chaplin in general. I assume you also think that Modern Times was a hoax and just a cheap comedy. The difference seems to be that Canadians that have been taught to fear fascism like hell and the Dutch have their bad memories left because of the occupation by the Reich, very much dislike the banner and the movie, The Dictator. While the supporters have a different background and view to this issue. IMO The Dictator movie was a very strong expression about what Chaplin wanted to say about fascism. And it isn't really a matter of linking all the war dead with a simple banner and a movie. Don't you have any limits? BTW, those comrade remarks don't fit into this case at all, unless you're now trying to make your own parody.
Conclusion; I do like the banner as it's sarcastic, but as several Apolytoners have sworn an oath to get rid of the banner at any cost, I assume it's better not to use it as there would only be more flaming.
CS,
I think you should calm down. Your anti-nazism policies are now set quite high compared to the situation. And Chaplin actually tries to look like a shabby "Hitler" as he usual does in his movies. |
Please, don't stereotypicalise.....I certainly was never taught to fear fascism. Although I disagree with the political system, as I am rather left, I don't fear it, at least not in the sense that it is evil. It just ruins humanity like capitalism, advocating greed and so forth.
As to the banner, I myself wouldn't mind it running. Frnakly, I like satire like MP, and also find making fun of a dictator somewhat amusing.
However, for practical reasons, I suggest not using it. Too many people would get offended.
It'd kind of be like making a movie about the sacred rock in Mecca really being an alien escape pod. Most WASPs wouldn't get offended, but that producer is soon to be hated by any and all Muslims. It just isn't a good idea.
For the Dominion, comrade! For Mother Canada!
