Why are Americans so anti- French? Support Apolyton, buy Galactic Civilizations: Deluxe Edition

It's very funny actually
But why is it?

Is it because you have been taught that France screws you over every time it can?

I thought that noone really liked the english myself.

About english not liking french it can be explained through history. Maybe some day Greeks and Turks will simply make fun of eachother like english and french do and not be so serious about it.

But about americans it's like an addiction not to like the french

It started in the trenches, the soldiers didn't know why they where fighting the war and looked for someone to blame. France, being who they where liberating, was a popular target. Same thing happened in WW2.

You have half the answer right there. The English didn't like the French. Even when the Revolutionaries allied with France that dislike must have still been present. Then when France was going bankrupt from the cost of their war with England and their aid to the Revolution in America they started trying to get money from the US resulting in the notorius XYZ Affair.

http://www.infoplease.com/ce6/history/A0852911.html

Plus I think Americans have a hard time understanding that the French sometimes have very different interests than the US does. Then again I think the French sometimes work so hard at having independent interests they sometimes forget that our interests and their interests really do coincide every so often so they go against the US on intertia even when it would be best to not do so.

I'ts like their policies in the Middle East. IF you care to go beneath the rhetorics you'd see that both the US and France (and other countries) are pushing aggresively for their interests without regard for whom they hurt and they "dress them up" with rhetorics about humanitarianism etc etc.

For France its even more striking when you find out because it is supposed to be the bastion of human rights.

The French kicked American forces out in 1966. The move was expensive and disruptive, but Vietnam was happening at the same time, so it was under-reported.

My father was treated like a son by a french family during ww2. He said that the overall resentment against Americans by France had to do with us bombing their country to oust Hitler's forces. The German army left but the french remained in their towns and got bombed even after being warned of the invasion by leaflets. Some Americans have responded to the resentment so now each side hates the other. Of course many people here do not hate the french and I certainly have nothing against them.

My family came from France and my grandfather got his nose blown off by the Germans. So I grew up hating the Germans. I do partake in French bashing sometimes since they do ocassionally act like pompous rat f***'s.

Ah, nothing like the sounds of trolls firing up flamethrowers.

Americans have nothing against France. It's a great country.

It's just that we have unrelenting hatred for the french people. Comes from being an english colony. When they kneel before their rightful sovereign, we'll reconsider.
