	Make 1 & 2 euro coins into notes Help yourself to an AD-FREE life

This was proposed by the Greek banks association to the ECB.
very good move I think. In the minds of the people the 1 and 2 euro COINS are responsible for their undervaluation (alawys in the minds of the people).

Let's hope other National Banks will join this effort (Italian, Spanish and others) and so the change can be made.

Not likely.

Notes are more expensive to produce than coins.
That is why they chose coins in the first place.

It would be easier though.
notes = euro's
coins = cents
(just like with dollars)

I heard Germany was having problems with the Euro - the centrally set interest rates are giving them trouble with their domestic policy, they're trying to being down unemployment and failing. My Economics teacher reckons they'll have to drop out inside 10 years if the problem's not rectified.

People are idiots if they place more value in notes than coins. he reason the club med countries undervalue the 1 euro coin is that in their old currencies 1 unit was worthless, they just haven't got the hang of the new system

What have dollars go to do with anything.

No we weren't. It's made life a lot easier. I no longer have a wallet full of manky old £1s. The coins are much nicer. Some people might have complained at the time but few people would say it was a bad thing now.

Undermine the value because of the material? No, at least I haven't noticed it.

But I do agree that I spend far more money with the new currency - that's because I still, occasionally, tend to similarize (sp?) euros with old FIM (which were 1/6 worth euro)

ade, we can also have 1 and 2 euros both in coins and in notes. so everybody will be satisfied and the goal of asserting the correct value is met too.

Why would the UK join the Euro? we will just have our economy devalued by a load profligate club med countries with no pension provision.

If it was just the Germans and the French I could see some sense in joining but it isn't and i don't.

I hate the fact that 2 Euros and 1 Euros are coins, I always end up with a pocket full of euros clinking around in my pocket. Part of it though is from habits dealing with American money. Since the largest American coin your going to come across is a quarter (most of the time), you tend to think of the euro coins as worthless and don't think to buy things with them, until you get sick of them weighing you down and get rid of them all at once by buying a large purchase all with 1 and 2 euro pieces.

BTW, Euros and dollars are about equal in value now if I'm not mistaken.

in the mind of the people it is, so is in the minds of canning retailers. it has a real consequence too since it drives up inflation through price hikes which take advantage of this perception. while the perception is irrelavant the inflation is real.

plus i repeat, i'd be glad to have less coins in my wallet.

The Dollar is about .10 more in value than the Euro currently. Not much of a difference so ya there equal.( they were made to be equal)

1 and 2 € notes?!? Halleluja! First of all notes can be circulated for a shorter time than coins so changing torn notes would get more expensive for the banks. Coin operated machines would be needed to be converted to a) accept only coins with smaller values, or b) wending machines would also have to accept 1 and 2 € notes. So the conclusion is that it would be too expensive as we just recovered from the previous investments. And using both 1 and 2 € coins would increase the costs too.

I have heard the rumblings of Greeks as the prices have gone up because of the new currency and also the fact that tourists from the EMU are now spending slightly more than before on their trips abroad. So I guess this 1 and 2 € banknote suggestion is related to that too, but that's OT in this topic.
