You shouldn't be so harsh on yourself, that is the problem (and my problem as well). I find it hard to see myself in that context, and hence I tend to withdraw because I don't know where I stand or what I am capable of. It is like a massive insecurity thing that stops me from ever doing anything.

Anyway, on this nice guy thing, I am nice enough, but I do have quite a strong sense of pride, and if someone begins to take me for granted, they very quickly know about it.

The whole - "let them show interest" is bullshit. Yes, there are instances where girls fawn over guys - but those guys are Gods, and you either avoid them like the plague to make yourself look better, or stick close to them and pick up the ones they don't like. OK, that was a litle tongue in cheek. Seriously though, it's hard to figure what "interested in" means. There have been a few times where I really thought I might be able to go somewhere with it - only to have them namedrop their b/f. The one time I never heard that - she told me she was trying to get back with her ex. I'm assuming that was code for "you ugly manwhore, never ask me out again". ugly manwhore, ugly manwhore - has a nice ring to it don't you think?

good example.

most women are still too reserved and shy to say they like you. but they will at least look at you or pretend to not be looking at you. Some of them do flirt as well.

In my case, when I see a woman who doesn't look away from my face in disgust, I strike up a conversation with her .

well this is an uplifting bit...

today in poly sci I'm feeling particularly gutsy so I strike up a conversation with the very attractive girl to my right. We whisper stuff to each other throughout class (it wasn't particularly interesting anyway) and I find out a lot about her. I introduce myself and give my name, she does the same...caught a few smiles...and as we're ready to leave she grabs the pad on which I was writing notes and puts her IM name...I do the same to hers...

Then we walk out of class together.

It gets better...

I come back for duty and a girl I've been getting more interested in comes to visit me. I'm in the office, not doing much, so it's not a big deal. We get talking about a wedding I'm in coming up (which we've talked about before) and she asks if I am bringing a date (obviously hinting) and I answer "actually, i was going to ask if you'd like to be my date" and she enthusiastically accepts...even though she claims to be repairing things with her ex-boyfriend...

hmmm...things could get interesting...Stay tuned

She cited the reason she broke up with this guy as a change from super confident nice guy to super paranoid nice guy...she said she was so attracted to him when he was confident and independent, and lost her attraction once he turned into a jealous possessive person who seemed afraid to lose his last possession. Possessiveness is a real turn off for many guys AND girls.

Especially the insanely jealous lack-of-confidence kind.

I figure that if I'm a bad enough judge of character to date a girl who'll **** around on me then it's unlikely inquiring into her whereabouts every thirty seconds will help me find out.

And every girl who dates me should know that cheating on me = having their ass dumped instantaneously, no looking back. I don't do it to them, they don't do it to me.

Frogger - my outlook was forever changed when I was cheated on. I used to be the very trustworthy but not 'take you for granted' type...have as many guy friends as you want, hang out with them whenever, I trust you completely, yada yada yada...

after that, I could never feel secure again. I never got that possessive, but I was always afraid I'd get hurt again. And I made the mistake of forgving her too soon, and without time to really think...maybe it's something I'll never fully get over, in the sense that I'm forever changed by it.

Just hope I can unlearn the fear so that I can give other women a fair deal.

That's funny, a guy I knew from Montreal told me about a girl he met once. They met looking in a store window, he was interested, she was well dressed. He said, I like your shoes, do you wanna ****? He said that she said yes, and off they went.

I mulled over that story for a long while. One day i was loitering along and noticed a woman who had seemed to notice me. I came to a stop, and looked in the shop window. Yup. Unlearn the fear (seriously, that lack of confidence is a relationship killer...seen it happen to other people)

And learn that you don't forgive **** like that. If you're in an exclusive relationship, then it's exclusive. One of you breaks the promise it's based on, then it's not worth it. I'd only stay if there were children involved.
