Baltic countries in NATO. Bad idea imo. It might influence to the relations with Russia. Even if they won't admit it, they don't like it one bit. Putin actually made a quiet threat to us about joining NATO. Saying that us joining NATO would be a dangerous move etc. But we all know nothing would happen anyway. He just wants to influence on our decision.
It's freaking huge topic here. I think it's about 50/50, maybe more against. Mainly against for the reasons that it could mean we have to have nuclear weapons in our lands if things get hot. It would also mean lots of increases to the military budget, when we rather buy toys for disabled kids than more guns . But that's about it.. if those were not in the way, we would already be in NATO.

We will never come to your weak alliances, never be defeated! MUhhahaha! We just watch you bomb each and eat potato chips, and when the time is right, roll in and take the wold domination when you have weakened yourselves! MUhaahha!

Hey, sometimes German flags remind me of the Third Reich (the same one that killed MANY MANY soviets...If memory serves, more soviets died in the great patriotic war than any other group. HMM....) Yet, I still tolerate it.

Oh, and yes I encourage tolerance for each others practices and any symbols they choose to put up. Even if it is the swastika, I encourage Israelis to put up with it. Same for anyone who has a beef with the shield of david.

I was wondering when you (Tassadar) where gonna find this thread.

What I don't understand is why people still think Russia is a threat? It's that stupid Cold War mentality that is preventing us from improving our relations. Russia has its own problems to deal with and I highly doubt taking any Balkan nation is anywhere near Russia's "To Do List".

I just don't see how people can still think Russia is some sort of threat and is gonna invade anyone. The only threat Russia has is it's economic situation. They are being forced to sell their military equipment to get income and this equipment is going to who-knows-where.

Russia isn't a threat foo!

I consider people that sport swastikas and take them seriously idiots and nazis and will NOT tolerate them. Same goes for any other paraphernalia of murderous regimes. It's not the symbols, it's what people use them for.

Well, intolerant people are usually what cause violence. Muslim and Hindus arent tolerating each other over in Pakistan/India, and...thats causing the deaths of many people. So thats why I take the stance of tolerance and peace

No, I dont support the communism of the USSR. I support communism, and the one practiced by the USSR was deplorable just as is the one practiced by the PRC. However, it is a symbol of communism so I choose to fly it. That is my right, is it not?

Also, some of my friends DO support the USSR communism and thats OK too. I dont believe in it, but thats just my belief. They have theirs, I have mine, and we both coexist on this earth side by side in peace.

Hmmm....Adolf Hitler? The man who caused the most number of deaths in a war in human history? (although that can possibly be attributed, of course, to more people being avaible to kill...) Hitler didnt tolerate others.

Tolerance is usually better than non-tolerance. Less deaths occour. Also, if memory serves..he did try to avoid war did he not?

Tassadar, Stalin killed more than Hitler and Mao killed the most. Somehow currently it is thought exacly opposite - that Hitler was the worst, then Stalin and then Mao.

Also, Tassadar, history seriously shown you (I mean Russia, not exacly you) can't be trusted and although many Lithuanians has nothing against Russian culture, Russian politics is still being hated.

Remember, you (by "you" I always mean Russia) not only occupied us for once, but for twice (thrice if counting the first SU occupation at start of WW2) and jointly for about 200 years. Also, you killed many Lithuanians and exiled much more. You filled our land with Russians. You forbidden to use our flags and even language (in first occupation). And you expect us to respect you? Never...

Personally, I'm happy to see referendums and the like. Even if some don't end up joining, the remainder will be more dedicated to the alliance.

Re the cost, yes, it will probably cost a bit more to be in the alliance v. not in the alliance, even if the payments are steadier. On the other hand, the increase in security is extreme and permanent.
