Paitkis,

I wouldn't let Mexico join the U.S. under any circumstances. Why add tens of millions of people who don't speak English, and who needs hundreds of thousands of acres of useless wasteland? The only thing that adding Mexico would do is drop our standard of living, and multiply our social problems. IMO, we should be doing a better job of keeping the Mexicans in Mexico.

I feel the same way about Turkey. Turkey is not European, it never has been and it never will be. It has no business in the EU. I think that the Greeks should be allowed to kick the Turks back into Asia Minor, rename Istanbul to Constantinople, and reclaim the Hagia Sophia. Admitting Turkey would destroy the EU.

I agree with you Gerth. If I were in Belgium, I'd be anti-EU as well. I'd also be opposed to the Guest Workers. What part of Belgium are you from?

"Would you accept Mexico as a US state BEFORE it sorted out such things as not being democratic, using tortures, violating all sorts of human rights, having hostile relations with virtually all his neighboors and having a crap economy which would collapse if left wityhout HUGE aid and huge povery in its population?"

I think something could be worked out, as Mexico has many of these problems nowadays. Joining the U.S. would lock in a lot of gains in a lot of areas for Mexico, so I think the U.S. would be understanding.

Also, let's get back to business. Turkey offers a lot more than does Mexico to a potential suitor. It bears repeating that the geography of Turkey is extremely valuable. The U.S. has never gone wrong by paying too much for their land and I don't expect the EU would either.

"and who needs hundreds of thousands of acres of useless wasteland"

Thar be oil on that thar land.

You are laughting here but when I was on vacantion in Greece said the guide something like "it is sad that constantinople the center of Christianity is not in Christian hands"

But I suppose that's the oppinion of a small minority of wackos like you have in every country. Still hilarious

the fact that millions of christians were kicked out of the lands they lived for thousands of years is indeed sad. it does NOT mean though that there are more than just a few idiots(the same percentage of idiots all countries have) who want to get into a war about it...

quote:
Why aren't ... Cyprus already member they already meet the criteria for years?
cause Turkey threatened to start a war about it if the cyprus issue wasnt resolved first....

eventually EU got tired(our acceptance of Turkey's candidancy had something do with it probably ) of waiting for Turkey to do some serious discussion (why would they do it, noone was really pushing them) and decided to let Cyprus regardless of the resolution of the issue....

i think even know Turkey hasnt taken back the casus belli...

Cheap manufactured goods from Poland would be great, provided they meet EU standards.

Personnally I see no reason to prop up an industry that is more expensive than importing. I regret the loss of your job, but I'm sure that Belgium has the potential to produce other goods/services more cheaply or to a higher standard than (say) Poland. Therefor by Poland joining the EU, Belgium has an additional market into which to sell its wares.

To me, integration is a question of how and when not if.

Not on me, I'm sure SD. But call a country 'stupid third colony' sounds bad. And if Saint Marcus wants to attack Fez, he must not attack anybody else. If he doesn't want to attack anybody, I add a 'explain me' message (with edit option, because I send the message too early - I push the incorrect button)

Also I'm very sensitive about that. I've the fear that I can miss-understand somebody (It happened me on the past) because my English is not soo good.

I love to be polite, and I try to not insult anybody.

Thank you for your answer

just three things about the country that piss me off.

1. Giancarlo
2. Real Madrid is heavily in debt, yet can still afford to buy star players
3. They take a lot of my tax money

and sometimes I do think it's a third world nation But same goes for loads of nations, so don't take it personally.

There are many people that make stupid comments like the one Marcus made. I'd let them go because to do otherwise is a waste of time - most people realise how stupid it is, and the person who says it is probably trolling.

The time when I would pull them up on such statements is if people showed an inkling of believing it, or the comment was ripe for mockery.

I don't think anyone could seriously beleive Spain is a third world country.

No problem then. Sorry If my previous post seems too agressive with you

And about Real Madrid's debt: they have sold their terrain on city center, and gain a huge, huge amount of money that they have used to pay his debt. So, Real Madrid is now without debt.

Yes, Spain recieves many money (1st reciever by far) from UE. But that is going to end. Those new countries have lower GNB/per capita figures, so your money will go to these countries.

"Just let Mexico annex you."

OK with me.

We'd then push through a change of the Mexican constitution to reflect our consititution (e.g., Articles I-VII, amendments, etc.) then change the name of Mexico to "The United States of America."

You know. Small things to help us feel comfortable.

Landgrabs are so 20th century....

Anyway, that geography comes at a price. I have to say, it takes a bit of getting used to the idea that the EU would share a border with Syria, Iraq and Iran....
