Avatar Enlargement: We've got the solution

This looks great! I like what you've done with the multiple units - I've never really liked multiple figures in FW/MPGE because so much detail is lost, but I guess in ToT you can retain the same individual resolution as FW.

When are you going to release it?

Yup, great pics

How are those clouds over the ocean done? I thought they´re units, but then I see no shields. Do they serve a special purpose or are they just graphical additions?

Lose 30 kilos (of popups)

Thanks guys. It should be up towards the end of next week. The clouds are railways in the ocean. And are you both going to sign up for the PBEM playtest game?

And thank you both for your graphics. Together you've supplied the majority of them for this scenario.

Suffering from ads?

Thanks for the invite, Techumseh - I would have thought you would need somebody who has played PBEM games before and was an experienced scenario designer, though. Although I've got ToT, I've played it once only; I went straight back to FW, not realising that you could replace the dingy graphics and crappy animated units. Having said all that, if your short of people, I'd like to have a go.

Very nice looking screenshots indeed. Nice touch with the clouds too.

At a guess, the cities and the irrigated/farmed terrains (plus maybe the forests?) were Bebroian (sp ) in origin?

Support Apolyton, buy Civilization: The Boardgame

Fairline & Kull. Welcome aboard. Gaius, yes it's a quick demo - unless you pay ten bucks to register it. Ravagon, thanks. The cities are indeed Bebroian, and too good to not use again. The irrigation terrain is from the ToT fantasy game.

Fairline . . . Support Apolyton, buy GURPS/ Alpha Centauri

In response to your statement about Gaul metalwork being better than Roman; In Caesar's Conquest of Gaul, during a battle, gaul warriors would have to individually fall back out of the fight in order to straighten their swords. The iron in the Gallic swords was apparently very poorly made, . . . according to the author.

It strikes me that if he was prone to exaggeration, he would've been more apt to state that the swords were of higher quality than those used by his own troops, thereby making the victory more evidence of his military prowess.

There's a similar reference by Polybius to Gallic swords bending when they struck the reinforced edges of Roman shields. That said, it was probably the Celts who introduced iron mail before 500BC and they were producing iron helmets from at least 400BC. At this time, Greeks and Romans were using bronze armour, and lacked the necessary iron working skill to produce iron armour. It wasn't until the Romans came into contact with the Celts that they adopted iron mail, and the same was true of the Successor states who came into contact with the Celtic Galations.

The Romans adopted Celtic armour, and when they had conquered Gaul used Gallic workshops to produce iron helmets. Even in Imperial times the Roman copies of Celtic iron helmets (Imperial-Italic type) were inferior to the Imperial-Gallic type, if the surviving examples are anything to go by.

Yeah, but there was a big difference between massive produced artifacts and well-made ones... and you can bet all the euros you want that Brennus' caliburnus was not a polybian sword for sure.
After all, Celts invented the mass production, as Herodotus wrote about them... and this is true only if regarded to last latenian models. Monte Bibele models - the short celto-italic sword model - were a lot different and better featured.

And don't forgot there were a lot of spearmen in celtic armies.

The Rubicon is crossed! Got spare money?

OK, it's done. I've posted it on my site, here: http://www.tecumseh.150m.com/ It's suitable for single player, all civs are playable. But I'd really like a multiplayer playtest, so I'm starting a new thread over on the PBEM forum. Please post comments, suggestions and accounts of any single player games here. Thanks.
