Still exactly the same bug when loading this PBEM. The file is bugged. I have played 3 other PBEM games in between these load attempts and they all work just fine (1x 1.21f, 2x 1.14f games, so patch is not the issue).

I'll forward these new turns to SirOsis too, so he can try those also when he comes on-line.

Swissy, are you involved in any other PBEM games besides this ? If you are, and the other PBEM's work for you, then this is strange.

If SirOsis cant get the turns opened, then i'd recommend Swissy to try playing his turn once again, by loading the game from the multiplayer menu, it usually eliminates many problems.

Detailed instructions :

Launch PTW
Select Multiplayer
Set Location to Local.

Click on Host
Under Game Type, select Play By EMail
Under Game Mode, select Load Game
Load the current save
Click on Launch


Do your turn (and adjust preferences to something really weird [shortcut to preferences = CTRL-P])
Click on the End Turn Oval
Save the Game on your hard disk
Send the turn

cant open jshelr's files. I haven't downloaded the patch. I guess I should, but am still wondering if it iwll affect my ability to play games with people who dont have access to the patch (players outside the US).

I've tried loading it from the main screen, and through multiplayer. No go either way.

Either way, the patch is too big for me to take the time today. Sorry, I hate to hold things up for a couple days, but thats life. But I will be able ot check so this board so if anyone has any ideas on how to fix, let me know.

HI Guys - Sorry I haven't posted for a while -(but I have been taking my turns promptly) - I've been v busy.
I now have the error where I can't open the file. I always open the games by going through the multiplayer meun but as I have a UK version of the game I can't install the 1.21 version for the US game (in the modern global inetnet world - you think they could organise a patch for every version - especially for a game called play the world !!).
What can we do ?

This patch fiasco is upsetting. Why can't they release it for every game? Are they that different?

When are they going to release it worldwide?

Below is a quote form a different site where the fiaco is explained.

Because game was released on different dates in different countries, the mess is ready, because some wise person decided its good to always include a newer copy protection available when possible.

conclusion: COPY PROTECTION SUCKS, only makes life more difficult for us leagal owners of games and programs + increases prices so more people will pirate.

As to Tom Reds problem:

He could forward his current turn to someone (e.g. SirOsis) and include instructions about how to play the turn.

Maybe the 1.21 euro patch will be released before he gets the save next time

I don't even know why they bother. I saw the ISO was available the day of release. Not like the protection stopped piracy. I spent $30 on this game and was so pissed off at release due to the bugs I should have pirated it. Now with this patch problem I'm beginning to wonder if we should have just pirated it and saved ourselves the headache of all the different versions.

Should be renamed to "Patch the World"

Please, please, please in the future e-mail me. I usually only check the board once a day, especially this thread.

I'm sorry guys, I'm bailing.

I apologize because I know its a pain to find somebody else, but my life is unexpectadly a lot busier than it was 4 months ago and its something I'd rather be doing than spending my time trying to figure out patches and .sav files.

I've sent an email to jshelr (the player right before me) giving him my password so he can make my turn for me so the game can keep moving.

Again, I apologize, but the days are getting prettier and the game is getting cumbersome

Dropping like flies. So much for the 8 player game. PTW is becoming a fiasco and I'm beginning to wonder if this game is ever going to be patched up so it is easy for the player.

If anyone else is going to bail let me know since I'm going to put out a call for replacements.

I am in it for the long haul so hopefully 3 years from now we'll look back at this and smile.

If people are bailing, I might as well join in. After having more experience with playing the game since this endevor started, I find the game setting not to my liking. The large map with no accelerated production has made this more a chore than leisure activity.

That's half the players jumping ship. Talk about attrition. I assume the other players, Clegg, Conqueror, Tom Red and myself are sticking it out.

This leaves us with 2 options.

1. Retire the other players and continue as a 4 player game
2. Find replacement players for 1-4 players and retire the rest.

What do you think we should do?

I will be out of town next week so hopefully we can pick things up after that.

Sorry things have been moving so slowly.

I am also going back to 1.14 so we don't have game mismatches.

Hmmm, replacements are fine. However, I'm not sure how keen I am on reverting to 1.14f since I'm in other PBEM's at 1.21f and play single player. How many folks do we have without the US version?
