My first proposal is to discuss the system used to name our units. Currently, we have just one Worker, so distinguishing between various units is hardly a problem. However, later on, having more units, it would be very difficult to precisely identify our units, should they be not named. Thus, I suggest choosing a coherent system of unit naming that will allow us to speak of them without additional hassle.

The following systems come to my mind:

  1. simple numbering: Worker #1, Warrior #15 etc.
  2. Civ2-like numbering: 1st Worker, 15th Warrior
  3. "true" naming: James the Worker, Conan the Warrior, The Holy Knights, The Green Cavalry, H.B.S. Legolia
Personally, I would go for the last option, as it would perhaps bring more "identification" with our empire and make any reports more fun to read. Every member of our team would create a list of names he would like to use for our units and the President/VP playing the turn would choose sequentially from these naming pools in a roundabout fashion (whether each member puts together one large list for all kinds of units or several separate lists for different unit types, would be up to him). I could add the intended unit names to the Guidelines thread posts. I strongly suggest taking no polls regarding such names. The overhead would be devastating. I also strongly suggest choosing names different from our real names or nicknames, as it might sometimes lead to confusion.

Now, what other naming system you can think up or would like to use? I would prefer discussing the topic for some time and later post a poll about it. Currently, we are in no hurry, as for several turns, we will have very little to name anyway...

Radek, I was thinking to create something like this:

THREAD TITLE
-----------------
THE GOVERNMENT OF LEGOLAND

FIRST POST:
---------------
THE GOVERNMENT OF LEGOLAND

This is an administrative thread used mainly for the purpose of concentrating the instructions our President or his VP will have to follow while playing our turns.
Do not post here !

PRESIDENT: Jack_www
VICEPRESIDENT: Vondrack
....

FOLLOWING POSTS:
-------------------------
This is an example:
2100 BC

Master Builder:
-Workers: Worker1 moves NW; Worker2 starts building a road to connect Legopolis with Jackville City
- Cities: Legopolis starts building a library;
- On a poll [poll link] that was closed today, our Senate has overruled the Master Builder's decision and Spifforium shall be built 4 tiles north from Jackville , and will be a coastal city.

Military Architect
- all of our knights will move to Vondracktown, because we fear an attack from the GoW.
- the newly built musketeer moves from Jackville City to the mountain NW from Vondracktown

... and so on

Please do not post replies here!
-------------------------------------------------

What do you think?

Yes, that is exactly what I believe should be the content of the Guidelines for the President/VP thread I started prior to this one. However, the first turns are so "simple" that it would be rather funny to structure the corresponding posts the way you did in your example, so I annotated them in a fairly free form.

But yes, this is exactly what I had in mind.

Tibi, would you like to keep the Guideline thread up to date? If so, just let me know - I would finish the 3950 BC entry myself, but you might take over from 3900 BC onwards (I would prefer having only a single post per turn, updated by the original poster whenever necessary). If you happen to be online tomorrow afternoon, try PMing me - we might meet in the chatroom, finalizing the Guideline thread structure and formatting.

BTW, thanks for posting in THIS thread, Tibi. I respectfully request that everybody follows your example and stick to the "Discussion..." threads, keeping the "main" ones as brief as possible.

I think your format looks great, Tiberius. It seems to be the most efficient way to convey all pertinent information, and keeps it all together. Plus, that will leave us with a good, solid record of everything that has gone on if we need it for later review.

On a side note, I'm preparing our first press release for the public. I will start a relavant thread for everyone to review it before taking it to the people, as it were.

Suffering from ads?

We really need those sticky threads! Can you PM Markos about this? (Jack, Vondrack?)

I'd like to propose that each minister should have its own thread, where they would discuss their strategy, next moves, etc. I will start a new thread (it should be a sticky one!) where the ministers should put their final decisions (after discussing it, if necessary) so I could grab them and put in the Government thread.
Does this sound OK?

Sounds good to me. Each minister having a separate thread will make it all the more easy to keep track of what decisions are being made. Quick reference is always a good thing.

Radek, do you mind if I start a new thraed instead of the "Guidelines for the President/VP"? I'd like to add the Government members in the beginning and, well, to be honest, I don't really like the title. I'd go for a "THE GOVERNMENT OF LEGOLAND - First term".

Edited: ... but if you edit your first post and put in the members of the Gioverment, I can live with the current title

This is a good idea. If nobody objects, I will continue using the Foreign Affairs Strategy thread for my agenda.

I believe the most we can hope for (at least now) is having a couple of threads topped by Markos himself (as a one time favour). We should finalize which ones we really need to have topped and ask him only then.

Yes, it is OK with me. The ministerial thread is a good idea. Just keep in mind that not only ministers, but also Senate may sometimes issue a binding order - you will have to watch the poll directory Kloreep promised to create over the weekend. I want to have one person responsible for putting all binding orders together - you.

We shoud be careful selecting threads to be topped. Only those that are intended for frequent reading by ALL our members should be topped. For example, the Ministerial Orders thread need not be sticky, as it will be used by you and Ministers only. These people can easily put a bookmark in their browser. For other members of the team, this thread may be ignored, as it is basically only a service thread used for communications between the Ministers and you (even though a very useful one). Whatever appears in the Ministerial Orders thread, will be reflected in the Guidelines for the President/VP thread anyway...

Currently, I would consider only these three threads worth topping (but feel free to object!):

The Chronicles of Legoland - obvious
Guidelines for the President/VP - 'cause it is a summary of our future plans/strategy
The Poll Directory (once Kloreep sets it up) - 'cause that's what everybody should pay attention to

OK, I will put the government listing in the first post for you. I do not consider the thread label any great, but it precisely describes what is to be posted/found there. Besides, you would have to create a new thread for the discussion... We would soon be overwhelmed with duplicate threads.

Thanks for living with it.

The only thing I'd like to add is a disclaimer: should I be unavailable, and nobody bothers to update the "Guidelines for the President/VP" thread, the President and/or VP can read the orders directly from the "Ministerial Orders" thread.

Could you please add something like this to the first post of the Presidential thread?

Vondrack : I agree we must rename systematically all units to keep track more easily. I say we have a system of simple renaming (worker #1, numidian #6 etc.), and we give cool names to these units when we want to. This will allow an easier reference when we'll have a bunch of units (of course, I say we give cool names to our few early units)

I would not object using a simple numbering system, allowing to give selected units special names, whenever we like. I would just prefer to use 1st Worker, 7th Archers, 3rd Mercenaries... it's publicly known I am an "immersion guy" and moving the 5th Horsemen is simply better than moving the Horsemen #5 for me...

Yes, thinking of it, I would vote for using the "1st Worker" naming system, with various units receiving special names, whenever we see fit (e.g. in reward for their brave deeds/achievements).

Numbering in a 1st xxxxx fashion is probably the easiest for general use. For more specific operations, such as military operations, perhaps we should name those units differently to show which ones would be involved. For example, say we're running "Operation Stormbuster," we could name the pertinent units "1st SB Archers," just so they would be easily recognized as being set aside for that purpose.

And, of course, units that have gained fame throughout the land can get more personal names.

Oh, and someday in the far future, I suggest we name our first ICBM "The Hammer of Legos."
