jdd2007, Yep. That's better option to me.. go there and give a fatherly beating. You can't be too scared of rocks, or you're in a wrong place to serve. If there's hundreds of people throwing, then it's definitely dangerous and can be deadly too, then pulling back is the option and coming back with more force. If crowd is big and hostile, it can easily become a bigger problem if you start shooting, there might be weapons near and become underdog in combat... It's not like you're abandoning the place and leave to the enemy or so, you're coming back soon and taking it back, and arresting people.
But I got to be more realist, if let's say I was alone in there, or only with few soldiers, big crowd, back up is not coming very soon and they start approaching, or are hitting you with rocks and there's nowhere to pull back, then yes. Then I'd shoot.
edit: and that's because I'd be then sure, they're very hostile, and want to kill you. Of course warning shots and let them know you're going to shoot them if they don't stop.. but if it's obvious they're not stopping, only getting more angry and it's a big crowd, chances are they're hitting you until you drop, and then come and kill everyone of you. SO then I would shoot maybe one in the leg and see the reaction, if it doesn't cool down and brake it, then shoot more. But I can't see this scenario happening very often, since you can almost every time just pull back as a last option. This doesn't mean pulling back to be the best and the first option.

And even with the best of us, it will happen eventually, that soldier shoots them. Who can you then blame? The kids knows the risks and are provoking them..
So if kid gets killed because he threw rocks for a month, I don't know.. he just had it coming I guess.

I'm not blaming the kids. I put the blame squarely at the leaders of the Palestinians (Hamas, Islamic Jihad, Fatah, the Palestinian Authority, etc). They're the ones that have built up a society founded on hatred, where they teach hated in their schools and have idolized terrorism.
